We in Orange County are living the dream. Truly.

Sure, the unemployment rate is pretty high, gas prices are ridiculous, rent is higher than much of the rest of the country, but we are seriously so lucky to live where we do. It’s beautiful in Southern California. The weather is unlike anywhere in the world. The good energy is magnetic and there’s opportunity around every corner…if you’re looking for it.

Several years ago, I got a random inquiry about some architectural photography. Having never shot a building, I made a few phone calls to see what information I could get about the task. One of the calls I made was to the ever fabulous Dale Babb, a long time colleague of my dad’s and one of the most solid realtors we knew. He hooked me up with his photographer, who offered me a job, and thus, my real estate photography career was born.

I have since taken Lovato Images full time and still shoot real estate for a handful of awesome clients. That opportunity I took 5/6 years ago shooting real estate has proved opportunity after opportunity for me in more ways than I can describe right now. But I would like to highlight the fact that it gives me ample opportunity to appreciate. I walk into beautiful properties with beautiful views that beautiful families call home and I am constantly reminded of how lucky I am.

No, I can’t afford a house in Coto de Caza or Newport Coast. No, I can’t handle the expense of a Maserati (but how rad would that be?!). No, I don’t walk into boutiques and buy whatever I fancy. But beyond all the material, I am so rich. I breathe in Pacific coastal air. I soak in Californian sun. I get to see and experience the finest things this country has to offer…for free. Because the finest things in life are free…when, and only when, you’re conscious enough to appreciate it all. And all this SoCal living…truly is like living a dream. It’s so beautiful. Life is so beautiful.

some Coto de Caza beauty for ya…

SEO Orange County - Very well put and true. It truly is great to live in Orange County. Terrific photos.

The Grady’s called me on a weekend and wanted to get their family portraits done before the following weekend. Fortunately, they were able to meet me during the week (always a bonus as most families like to do sessions on the weekends) and we rocked out a fab family portrait session the next Thursday afternoon.

So come to find out, Kimmie, their daughter, wanted to get her hair cut before she left for school that next weekend and they all wanted to do the shoot before she cut her hair and obvs before she left. I thought her hair was super cute and already cut short…so I’d actually be interested to see her new ‘do! Kimmie, uh, can you friend me on Facebook so I can see your new hairs? K, thanks.

It was easy to tell how proud of their daughter the Grady’s are and how excited they are for her education and progression in life. It’s also easy to get caught up in leaving for school or work or this appointment or that. It’s easy for your list to get piled with hair cuts and lunch dates and errands all over. I’m lucky to find moments to slow down from all of this and take time to notice and appreciate all the awesomeness between. Like how proud Kimmie’s parents are to be her parents. And how supportive they have been and continue to be. I guess it’s part of my job to observe these kinds of awesomeness. So I guess that makes me work just that more awesome.

I read this quote this morning and couldn’t help but think of the Grady’s. With Kimmie so young and fresh, off to college, off to the beginning of a new life…with her parents so solid and wise behind her. It makes me appreciate their family awesomeness and makes me stop to appreciate the awesomeness of my own.

But it’s going to be harder than you thought. But you will make it. Just don’t stop, and stay together. You’ll make it.‘ -Donald Miller

Someone told me I should develop myself a Facebook business page. And after months of listening to her preach all the benefits and finally letting go of my previous held beliefs, I gave in and created one. Now that I’ve gotten into the Facebook business page thing, I’m actually enjoying it and not just the development of my own page…I’ve been enjoying keeping tabs on other pages of businesses I like as well. I mean, came this close to winning a Dogfish Head beer sign the other day. Radical, right.

So it’s been an interesting couple of weeks exploring Facebook and all that is has to offer. My marketing hat is constantly on, but now it’s got a new Facebook twist.

So naturally, when my fabulous friend Denise of Wild At Heart hit me up last week, my Facebook gears were turning. Let’s do a promotion together! we decided. Thus, the We Want You campaign kicked off…

So do me a fave and head over to the Lovato Images Facebook Page and LIKE us! You’ll be entered to win a $25 gift certificate to Wild At Heart Decor and Gifts. It’s always so refreshing when a couple gets in front of my camera and just shines. The sun was shining bright that Sunday evening at 5 o’clock and I was slightly worried that Christy’s light eyes would suffer from  major squint syndrome. But by Merle’s side, Christy just shined right back.

We moved from little spot to little spot around Table Rock in Laguna and every spot proved to be better than the one before. Not because the lighting was better or the background was more compelling, but because Christy and Merle just lit up together.

I used a long lens and stood back for a lot of the shots. I told them to talk amongst themselves. I directed a little, but mainly let them do their thing. And the two of them snuggled and chatted and laughed and had a blast just being together. It’s love like that that makes love look so easy and grand. Christy and Merle are just natural together, and excited about one another and happy just being together.

Christy and Merle, congratulations on your engagement. I hope your marriage proves to be easier and grander than ever. I hope you two continue to be as natural, excited and happy as you were in Laguna that day throughout your many years together to come.
