Meet the Bauers. Owners of Hotel Bauer. Creatives of JL Photographers. And two of the coolest kids on the block. Literally. They really rock their block.

Lauren and I are whetting our palettes with film lately and we decided to combine some engagement photography location scouting with a photo double date. Now, these aren’t engagement photos because the Bauers are obviously already hitched but they rocked the other side of the camera like the cool kids they are. We cruised around a few corners of Newport and ended on the beach for a bunch of frames that left me wanting more… #film #nofilter #sofun #whoswithme

My fabulous friends Dawn and Hawkes, the dynamic duo from Austin, TX were recruited to audition for NBC’s The Voice. The blind auditions air tonight and you better believe this #DawnandHawkes fan will be glued to her tv to see what happens…

Whatever does happen, I’m super stoked to know these two and be able to cheer them on in this amazing journey…not just through this Voice audition, but all through their career. The music they make, the energy they create, the smiles and good vibes that result along their path are why I must be a part of it. A fabulous friend sent me an excerpt from a book she’s reading and I felt compelled to share it as well…

 

“From The Long Road Turns to Joy, by Thich Nhat Hanh:

“Walking meditation is meditation while walking. We walk slowly, in a relaxed way, keeping a light smile on our lips. When we practice this way, we feel deeply at ease, and our steps are those of the most secure person on Earth. All our sorrows and anxieties drop away, and peace and joy fill our hearts. Anyone can do it. It takes only a little time, a little mindfulness, and the wish to be happy.

Walking can be done in so many different ways. In this, and in everything else, you have choices: power walking or meditation walking? Every day, the choice is yours.”

 

Now obviously there needs to be some power walking. You are talking to Jackie Lovato here. 🙂 But there also needs to be meditation walking, even if it’s through the grocery store. There can be joy in all things. As Hanh says, we must be mindful of it. Happiness is absolutely a choice; I hope you choose it.

You all know I love a good second shooter! With weddings and big events, it’s crucial. So you better believe I jump at the chance to second shoot myself. I always am excited to work more and collaborate with other artists, but also love the chance to shoot an event without the pressure of being the main shooter. It allows for a little more creative freedom and exploration.

Check out this trailer from Janet and Jonathan’s wedding at Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles. I shot it with the uber awesome Mike McCaleb of Mission Visual. Always a pleasure second shooting for this fine fellow…

I just love the journeys of life and the highlights along the road.

Meeting Gregda was definitely one of those highlights. I was stoked to meet them through some great friends a few years back, then was honored to document their new and fresh love with some engagement portraits in Laguna. Then the invite came to celebrate their marriage at an amazing wedding in Nicaragua the following year and the highlight exploded with fireworks over a private beach on the Pacific. The fireworks were real, but I mean them literally too. Egda and Greg are just the really special type that you know your life is a little bit better with them in it.

I was thrilled when they called me a few months ago to announce they were with child and wanted some maternity portraits and some baby photos when the dude arrived. Here’s the first of the double session…a nice little highlight on Gregda’s road before Joe lit up their lives completely…
