As I drove down the 91 fwy I blared the radio, rolled down all the windows and smiled to myself because in just a few moments I would have everything I need to feel good again. It had been a hard week and all I wanted to do was see the girls, sip some wine and plop myself in Val’s kitchen, more formally referred to as Chez Saratoga, for Italian Reunion #6.

When I walked through the front door I immediately relaxed and smiled as Val greeted me with a glass of wine. I literally felt my shoulders relax and release the stress. As Carol and Jackie arrived we started chatting and laughing as usual.  I thought to myself how lucky I am to have this type of therapy in my life. Two generations of women I can count on, share my secrets with and know I won’t be judged, only heard, and always inspired.

We cooked Italian food (homemade pizza was involved and Carol literally picked basil from the garden outside), listened to Italian music and reminisced over all the photos and videos we took in Italy two Octobers ago.  It was also nice to share our memories with some of Val and Carol’s neighbors and friends who stopped by throughout our reminiscing. The door is always open at Chez Saratoga, so that happens quite often and I love it.

Jackie and I spoke yesterday and we’re already planning reunion #7.  Sighhhh….I’m looking forward to my next therapy session.*

*This is my type of therapy session and I attend them as much as I possibly can. Thanks, Liz for writing such wonderful words on our Italian reunion dinners, and the experiencing the wonder of life with these wonderful women. It’s hard to sit down and try to write out all the awesome that Aubrey is. She interned with me a few years back and has been my go-to assistant since, and has become a charming and endearing friend along the way. She’s witty and smart. She keeps me on my toes with quick quips and clever contribution to shoots and styles and everything fashion. She’s lovely and level-headed yet the perfect little amount of wild. She’s got a bit of quirk and a whole lotta class. Suddenly I feel like I’m trying to write a country song…

And maybe I should! She definitely deserves it. Meet my awesome assistant, Aubrey. She’s on her way to take this creative world by storm. Her blog is due to launch soon so we bundled up the awesome and headed to the hills of Yorba Linda for some fun photos a few weeks back. A girl needs some solid portraits to kick off her online presence, right?! Stay tuned for a link to her blog…

Pregnancy to me represents so much. It’s God and man and love and respect and selflessness and miraculousness and energy and exhaustion and life and death all in one. Maybe one day I’ll be able to articulate it. But for now, I just stand in awe.

Katy and James are pregnant for the first time, and they’re expecting twins. Double the awe-some here.

‘So what are you going for here?’ Cynthia, the make up artist asked me Sunday morning as she started to work on Liz. ‘I want it to be soft and romantic,’ I said, as Liz and Cynthia’s eyes got big with excitement. Every woman loves a little romance, doesn’t she?

And we definitely pulled out Liz’s romantic side Sunday with our sensual portraiture session in Laguna, known to many as boudoir. I’m changing the rules though, and leaving the lingerie and cleavage at home. Stay tuned for more from this project…

Beth Swade Thomas - So understatedly lovely Jackie Lovato!

Patty and Matt wanted a wedding that was simple and sweet, focusing on what really matters, their relationship and their son. Raising Zander has been at the center of their lives for the past nine years and they wanted a wedding ceremony that reflected that and the promise they’ve made to continue to raise him right. Their closest friends and family gathered around them on a beautiful spring day as they vowed to focus on family and the love of God to bind them.
The trees rustled softly in the light breeze and the flowers danced in the sun as Patty and Matt married last Monday afternoon. The world smiled as a new garden bloomed.
