There is something so stunning about the female body. The smooth lines. The graceful curves. The way the light falls into the little folds. It all sweeps together in all sorts of splendid ways.

It manifests itself best into a true work of beauty though, by what the female holds within. The lines and curves and folds don’t shine as well in the available light as when there’s light shining from within. When a woman has the confidence and character to relax and settle comfortably into who she is, that’s the most stunning female feature of all.

So often we get frustrated by the huge list of things that need change. So often we get intimidated by the long road ahead. Too often we are daunted by the massive mountain we must continue climbing to reach the peak.

But let’s pause for a moment and just breathe…

We can change. We can enjoy the journey. We can reach the summit to live the good life on top of it all. Little by little. Step by step. We can get there.

A nice reminder by Arthur Ashe that we can, indeed, do it. Take your first step today.

Happy Monday!

    Who Knows - Well said!

  • June 5, 2012 - 9:30 am

Jackie - Thank you, Who Knows! 🙂

Melanie and Jeff have a unique story. Not unlike others, they met during college where they both attended The University of Iowa. Not unlike many others, they got to know each other through a series of study dates in the library. Not unlike so many others, they fell in love and knew that one day they wanted to wed.

However, Jeff was studying dentistry and Mel was studying medicine. Their pursuits in professions drew them to different areas of the country as Jeff began his residency in orthodontics in Denver, while Mel stayed in Iowa. The solid pair continued their now seven year relationship long distance. And after their marriage this past weekend they will continue to live separately while Mel starts her residency in obstetrics in St. Louis.

Two doctors. Two states. Two hearts bound together so tight and strong no distance could ever break them apart. The amount of discipline and determination these two have for one another and their future together is inspiring. I’ve never known a love to be so solid and so strong, and from so far away. You could see it in their eyes last weekend. You could feel it in their embrace. You could hear it in the laughs they shared over and over.

And over and over in my mind I’ll roll around the memories of the fantastic celebration that united this pair in good ole West Des Moines last Sunday. I am so lucky I get to not only photograph such tremendous love and unique stories like theirs, but I get to know these amazing people too! Mel and Jeff and your families*, thanks for letting me in to your fantastic story and trusting me to document it. I’m so glad to have been there for this new beginning of yours and I can’t wait to see more of your fabulous story unfold…

Perhaps some of you remember Christine and Ben from their engagement photos a few months ago. As their wedding date draws near, we are wrapping up the extras in their package and completing the custom designed guest book in which their wedding guests will sign.

I loved working with this couple so much back in February and was awesomized by the bits of their story I observed. I am beyond thrilled to document more of their love this summer as they marry in Dana Point. And I am so happy to share some of it with a leather bound book sealed with signatures of those that love them most. Here’s the layout of the book for now. Stay tuned as summer slips in for their wedding photography images!

In case you’re ever a bride or groom and are suddenly daunted with the enormous task of planning a wedding, please feel free to resort back to this blog to find all the tips and tricks you need regarding wedding photography and hiring your wedding photographer. There’s a special post I did a few months ago that spells out what to look for and what’s important when hiring your wedding photographer that can be found here.

There is one point that should be made clear though: make sure your wedding photographer is in good shape. It’s a long, physical, emotional and mental day for we creative visionary artists as we run around documenting the most important day of your life. Be certain that your wedding photographer can handle it physically. Before you hire, you should make sure they are able to do squats on their toes with ease.

Exhibit A:

And on that note, I’m headed out to my old stomping grounds in West Des Moines this weekend to run and jump and squat and lunge and climb and tear it up for Melanie and Jeff’s wedding in Iowa. I’ve been working out. I’m ready.
