I love a couple who has fun together. I love a couple who can’t stop laughing together. I love a couple who can be straight up silly together.

This was Ann and Pierre. From the second we started our portrait session in Anaheim Hills, the two were whispering and snickering together. Giggling. Poking. Eye rolling. Just non-stop fun-ship together.

The two met playing World of Warcraft together, which I thought was totally interesting. It still baffles me that we can communicate in chat rooms and through video games and Words with Friends with friends we’ve never met before. Technology is crazy, man. I’m sitting here in my office with my coffee and wet hair behind my massive computer mask and I’m communicating with you. It just baffles me. And then, to reach through the filters and masks and to actually find someone you get along with so well that laughter runs rampant, it blows my mind! Technology, man. It has brought the human experience to new levels. Again and again.

And again and again Ann and Pierre have fun together. Dating for several months now, the couple are happy as little gaming clams. If they keep on keepin’ on the way they’re keepin’ on…this couple is sure go a ton of fun places.

When I was a little girl and people would ask me ‘what do you want to do when you grow up?’ my responses always varied. The one constant though, was that I wanted to help people. I remember deciding to pursue a career in photography thinking to myself, ‘how the heck am I going to help anybody with this?’ Some serious disappointment surrounded that.

As I continue to grow up, I continue to learn that helping people doesn’t mean you have to be a teacher or a nurse or a shrink. You can help people every day doing every day things.

For example, my bike tire went flat and my friend came to pick me up. That helped. My hands were full and the dude in front of me held open the door. That helped. My heart was heavy and my roommate stopped just to listen. That really helped.

We all carry big loads. We all need extra hands. We all need help squeezing out some tears from time to time. Or composing a resume. Or picking up some Nyquil. Or even taking out the trash.

So let’s get on that. Let’s grow up and start helping people. Even if it’s just sitting in the shade for a moment to lend an ear, do it. Offer your ear, your hand, your heart…whenever however you can. I’m growing up and understanding more and more that that’s what it’s really all about…

sandra pg - great foto, love the colors! and the locale! is that the motherland?

    Jackie - the motherland?

It is my job to document your memories and to immortalize them with images that will last forever. It is what I do. It is what I am paid and expected and trusted to do.

But when I’m not around, who’s documenting your memories and who’s ensuring that those are expected and protected to last your life time? YOU must.

For every set of images you take on your digital camera, please, please take time to transfer them to your computer and then transfer them one more place for safe keeping. It’s easy. Your digital camera comes with a cord that connects to your computer. Use it. Plug your camera into your computer, save the images on your computer and then save them to an external hard drive or a disc so that there is another copy in one other place besides your computer. Hard drives crash. Cameras get stolen. Kids or stupid cats spill drinks and if you only have your images in one spot, they are indeed in danger.

Back up your images! In two places! Regularly! Consistently! And carefully!

If there’s one thing that I can give you, it’s the knowledge and power to do this on your own all the time. It’s so important. I’ve seen so many people lose years worth of images because they weren’t backed up elsewhere and it hurts me every time. It hurts them more.

Now go! Protect your memories by backing up your digital images again and again!

Words can’t describe the amount of joy, love, connection and community that went into this past weekend with Dave and Nicole and their family and friends at Lake Tahoe. I was honored with the task of documenting their wedding celebration and unfortunately, my loving attempt at describing it with my images also falls quite short at representing all that it was.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words…so while I sit here in this high from the fabulous weekend that just past, here’s a few thousand on just Dave and Nicole for you for now…
