Last week I scooted up to North Hollywood to do a shoot for one of my awesome clients, American Music and Sound for Midas Consoles. Every so often they call me up to do an editorial shoot with one of their clients for the PR. In this case, Schubert Systems had purchased a couple of their awesome Midas PRO6 consoles, so up to their HQ I went.

Now Gabe, the cool dude I coordinate with at AM&S, always has his vision of the shot he wants. He’s very specific. This is great, because he always has good ideas and provides great direction. However, quite often it limits my own creativity. These guys are busy dudes dominating the music industry and I only get a few minutes of their time. So I have to be set up for Gabe’s shots and I’m lucky if I get a few extra minutes to play my own way.

Last week. I took the shots that were spelled out.

Then we started to wrap. I took down a light…and quick fired one off of Dirk as he was shutting down the consoles. I liked it so much, I made them get back behind the console and stole another one with the same lighting. A little more moody. A little more me.

So I ask you…how can you be a little more you? Try to make it happen today.

Rooz - dopeness. so awesome. like seriously awesome. like really seriously super awesomely awesome.

Last night I attended the Association of Bridal Consultants meeting at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club with speaker Kelly Aguilar from The Chic Geek. Those of you on my mailing list may remember her feature this month…and for those of you who haven’t ever heard of The Chic Geek yet…GET INTO IT.

Kelly’s business is a full service social-media-is-awesome-and-you-all-should-know-it-so-I’m-here-to-teach-you-or-if-you-can’t-handle-take-a-load-off-cause-I’ll-manage-it-for-you option that really shouldn’t be an option. The Chic Geek and her knowledge and skills should be mandatory for every business. If I was the principle in the school of business, I’d make all my students consult with Kelly before graduation.

The unfortunate thing is that so many of us never got our degree in social media. It’s a learn-as-we-go thing for us all, and fortunately we’ve got Kelly riding high on top of the wave loaded with all the newest tools and applications. I was slightly embarrassed last night during her seminar as I secretly scribbled down notes in a frantic, realizing I knew nothing about Facebook business pages and the benefits they could be bringing to my business.

So what’s on my to-do list today? Well, beyond 5,000 things to get done before I leave town, Facebook Business Page development. Like it. Like me. And Like The Chic Geek. She’ll take your social media knowledge to new levels. It’s all about ‘empowering the peeps,’ she says…so get into it and let the EMPOWERMENT begin!

Kelly - LOVE that last shot babycakes!

Some days I walk into a shoot with clients I’ve never met before, unknowing, perhaps slightly apprehensive but ultimately just unsure of who they are and how they’ll be with me. Such was the case with Ana and Ryan, but because of the fabulous referral source, I knew I was in for a good time…

Then I was totally blown away. Ana and Ryan walked up and I was immediately struck by their fabulocity and awesomevity and the next few hours flew by as we laughed, chatted and kicked it together around Laguna.

It’s been said that I’m good with words. But words can’t really wrap around all that Ana and Ryan are. They’re fun. They’re free. They’re open. They’re those new friends that are so comfy you feel you’ve known them forever. They’re that new beer you try where after just one sip, you are refreshed and full. Full of flavor. Full of substance. Full of excitement for future sips to come.

And just like that beer, my mouth waters over these images. Ana and Ryan’s love is honest and real. It makes me thirsty for more honesty and a reality that opens my eyes to all the brightness they see together.

…and if you’re thirsty for some really good words…check out Nick Miller, Ana’s brother. He hooked us up for this shoot. But he hooks me up daily with words that inspire me to not just write more, but to write more openly and more honestly. Like Ana and Ryan.

Michelle - Amazing photos Jackie. I love the shadow heart on the boardwalk and the first pic of them in profile in front of the running sculpture. Haven’t checked out your blog in a while, and boy did I miss a lot! I always enjoy your positive, uplifiting thoughts and you continue to grow by leaps and bounds as a photographer. Great job!

    Ryan - Hi Jackie,

My mom just looked a this and cried because of your nice comments!

I woke up a few mornings ago and realized, I’m in pretty good shape. My roommates and I have been consistent with our gym attendance since the turn of the year and our motivation keeps feeding off one another and continues to grow. Combined with several fabulous meals together every week, countless stimulating conversations and daily laughter, our home has become a little wellness center of sorts. I’m happy to report once again that life is good!

I’ve also started participation in a breakfast club. Every Thursday morning, a few of us meet and discuss our businesses, our lives, our health and ways to make ourselves and our work better. It’s been beyond fabulous.

Two of the breakfast club members are clients of Christine Mohler, a fabulous woman who I was fortunate enough to work with a few weeks back. She’s a nutritionist with a natural medicine based practice in Orange. She hired me to do head shots for her and I enjoyed working with her so much, I’ve been keeping tabs on her and her work since. She’s a very special woman with enlightening techniques and daily practices that will get anyone back to better health in no time. Not to mention her positive attitude is highly contagious…

So if you’ve been in a funk, I recommend either getting new roommates who are two of the coolest people in the world, starting your own breakfast club with solid individuals who care about you as much as, if not more than themselves…or call Christine Mohler. She’s a gifted clinician who I’ve learned a lot from in a very small amount of time.

Happy Monday! Happy healthy living!

her warmth on my foot, puts warmth in my soul.

the depth in her eyes, creates depth in my understanding.

the strength in her commitment, builds strength in my hope…

my hope in life.

my hope in The Good.

she moves me. she moves me high. she moves me from the lows. she moves me fast and excited and she moves me slow.

she’s my lady. my best friend. my little girl who will forever love me more sincerely and more purely than any other. she gets me. better than any other.

and all that i’ve learned from her is better than anything i’ve ever known.
