So I’m slightly bummed right now because I just realized I never blogged this fabulous shoot with Karoline and Andrew! I’ve been shooting so much lately, there’s tons of content that hasn’t made it to the blog and I am seriously bummed this session hasn’t gone out yet because it was way too fun to not share!

I shot Karoline and Andrew and their son Alexis back in December when they were in town for Christmas. They live in Virginia Beach so I was super excited they could make it to SoCal for an engagement session before their wedding in Rome later this year. So I designed this guest book for them to take to their wedding. I personally prefer a guest book, especially on destination weddings as it’s easy to travel with and a fun thing to keep on the shelf and pull out and look through from time to time. Not only does it chronicle all the fabulocity of the e-sesh compared to just one or two images framed, it also keeps Uncle Bill’s drunk note safe instead of showcased on a 20×30 matted frame on the wall. Right?

So yea. Totally spaced on getting this one on the blog. I guess I need a marketing manager. And a full time administrative assistant. Anyone interested? I’ll make you dinner. And one day, when I’m making a ton, I’ll pay you a phat salary. Until then, I’ll just make you really good dinners. Like, really good dinners……….eh?

‘make some pretty pictures,’ he said.

‘i am,’ i replied.

and i thought about it for a moment, as if it were something deep and meaningful and insightful. and it became so.

i thought i could hold him and show him how pretty my picture could really be.

open your eyes. see. open your mind. be. develop a vision, all your own. take some frames, wrapped around a home. bind them together into a new philosophy. one that’s painted, not tainted, but painted, with rose colored lenses.

paint your pictures. make your own pictures. and the world will be much prettier. i promise.

Abigail - it’s me! your writing is so beautiful… i love you!

Grace and Roland met one afternoon in the courtyard of their senior living home. Grace noticed Roland’s dog right away and stooped to pet the precious pooch. It was love at first sight…with the doggie and her handsome man. At 89 years old, Roland said he couldn’t wait any longer.

So Roland proposed, and three months later…there we all were. The same courtyard. The same love. The same doggie to tie it all together.

Grace’s children helped her get ready and her great grandsons helped make the ceremony complete by bearing the rings. ‘I didn’t need all this, I didn’t need a fancy wedding,’ Grace said to me in her room while she was getting ready. She was all smiles. ‘I didn’t expect this to happen. But I fell in love. And he wanted to get married. So here we are.’

So Grace’s son walked her down the aisle and after a short and totally sweet ceremony, the 89 and 85 year old couple’s knot was tied. Immediately after the ceremony they sat down to rest then again before, during and after our portrait session. They sang to one another the whole time.

I guess all of life sounds like a song when you’re that in love…

Joe + Kathrina - That is so awesome Jackie, seriously rad you did an awesome job but what a cool thing to be able to capture. Guess that proves that there is no age that is too old to love. Those look like some happy people.

The Huangs and I met at one of my favorite parks in Tustin Ranch a few weekends ago for what I thought was going to be a normal family portrait session. And for the most part, it was pretty normal. Except for the fact that my heart totally melted into a puddle of butter on the ground…over their sweet little Braden.

This little guy totally lit up my life that Saturday morning. I mean, just look at him. He’s adorbs beyond. And then add in some conversation and an exploration through the ‘spooky forest,’ and you’re totally hooked. His little personality is truly captivating. No seriously. Just looking at these images makes me wanna call Christine and go hang out with them again. So um, Christine, if you’re reading this….Hey, how’s it goin? What are you doin this weekend?

😉

The Huangs are definitely a special trio. Braden takes the cake, for sure, as being the most adorable little guy ever. But Christine and Jason are pretty special too. The love they share and wrap around their son is incredible. I could see it right away and was equally as warmed by their family dynamic as Braden’s ridiculous adorable-ness itself. I can only hope that when my turn as a parent comes, I can give that same deep and unconditional love in their same beautiful way.

(here’s Braden, entering his spooky forest with caution…)

I sit here with my coffee as the morning mists itself outside. The sky is a silver gray, but the morning is bright. My coffee comforts me. The love of my poodle protects me.

I’m another year older today. Another chapter through. I feel stronger than ever today, but know I still have so much to do.

I can’t help but reflect on what I’ve been through as a human the past quarter of a century. I remember shifting my focus from the wall paper to my crib bars when I was a baby. Even then I liked to play tricks with my eyes. I remember girls being mean and making me cry and wanting to curl up and hide. Even then I knew trust shouldn’t be taken lightly. I remember struggling with math class and getting tutored and studying extra hard and barely making it through. Even then I knew any challenge could be overcome with commitment. I remember getting my baby girl and learning what responsibility is all about. I remember falling in love and feeling how thrilling life can be. I remember trying to start a business and failing. Trying again. I remember crying. Feeling like dying. I remember choosing happiness. I know that a positive life is up to me, no matter what else happens.

There will be negativity. There will be times when there feels there’s no way out. There will be disaster beyond my control. This is life. Every blue sky God gives us has mans muck tangled beneath it…

But I choose to look beyond. I choose to take these few years of experience under my belt, and head full force into the future with nothing but passion and persistence and the playfulness of tricky eyes. The Good Light will guide me. Even through this misty morning…I see nothing but bright Light.

Happy Birthday, to me. Happy life I’ll continue to lead.
