Sometimes I get so busy taking care of my clients and creating images that I forget to share them! Such was the case with these fun family photos.

I met Paul and his boys in Huntington Beach for a fantastic evening of romping around their stomping grounds. The three spend a lot of time together in their home town and Paul wanted family portraits that showcase where they’re at this time in their lives. They are a trio that has a ton of fun together, loves to horse around, but also way dedicated to one another and school and work.

I loved this session because a, we had loads of fun, but also because I think we got exactly what Paul wanted. And how wonderful it is to share that…

Wyndham Hotel Wedding Album

We just finished the album for Megan and Josh’s Wyndham Hotel wedding this summer in Costa Mesa. It was an emotional day full of tears, laughter, some fear and a whole lot of love. It was beautiful from head to toe and I love how the album design turned out for them so they can treasure the memories for the rest of their lives.

Cheers, Megan and Josh!

I read a really great article today with an interview of photographer Ryan Muirhead. His work is dramatic and compelling and I’m sorry that I am just now discovering it. But I am also inspired and privileged to be just now discovering it too.

In this interview, Muirhead says “The real breakthroughs come when you explore questions like what do you really wish your life looked like? What are you terrified of? What do you wish you had the means to resolve in your life but are too afraid to admit? Why is this your work?  What are your pictures saying, and is that what you want them to be saying?” And on a day where I did some considerable work on my business and its plan and how it fits in with my life in the next few years, these questions are way relevant to ask.

Then he went on to say “Why art? I think it’s because we are living and existing in a sphere where complete answers are impossible. Where, despite everything we’ve received from science, religion, or life experience, you will run into something where the only available answer is ‘we don’t know.’ Art so aggressively addresses that, either directly or indirectly…[so] Why do we make art? Because we don’t have the answers, and art is abstract enough to not say ‘this is the answer.’ It honors the questions. Great art explores the questions. Like, why do we keep trying?”

A lot to process if you really think about it. Well my challenge to you this fine hump day, is to ask yourself some of those questions and more importantly, to be okay if some of the answers are ‘I don’t know.’ You might not be an artist, but you are a human and there is so much craft to develop in that. The education in life never ends, especially when you continue to ask yourself valuable questions like these. Like really, why do we keep trying?

Carie Cruz - This is such a RAD image Jackie!!!! Radness.

The saying goes ‘dance like no one’s watching,’ right? Well what about just dancing? Forget about forgetting about everyone else…and just lift your arms, sway your hips and move to the music of your heart.

A few weeks ago it was really hot in my office and I was g-chatting with a friend, expressing some frustration with the sweaty lull in the afternoon. She said ‘take a break and dance for a minute.’ So I got up from my computer, threw my arms in the air and danced.

What a great rush of serotonin! Life can be overwhelming, intimidating and definitely frustrating. I totally get it. But I also get that focusing on the positive, letting go of the negative and listening to the Good sounds will move you to great things…even if it’s just dancing by yourself for a minute. Feed that soul, guys. Get those Good juices flowing!

So this Friday, I hope you dance.
