Auto Mode – Avoiding Blurry Images

When you take pictures on the AUTO mode of your camera, you are telling the camera to do all the work and pick the best settings. Auto is often symbolized by a green camera or a green square. Auto is easy to use and convenient but it isn’t foolproof. Sometimes if there isn’t enough light, the camera will select a slower shutter speed which can result in blurry images. Boo.

Keeping your body still is key! You must be as still as possible before, during and after pressing the shutter button to minimize image blur. Because many digital cameras continue to process the image after clicking the button – especially if it’s gathering light in dark environments – you want to remain motionless for a few seconds afterward.

Since no person can stay completely still, look for extra support to stabilize yourself: lean against a wall or pole, brace your arms into your body, or even place the camera on a table or a shelf. Holding your breath for a few seconds while you press the shutter also helps. Whatever you can do to minimize your body’s movement, the better off your image stabilization will be (aka, sharp images instead of blurry ones).

Sometimes, it even takes getting in the Crouching Tiger Tip-Toed Jackie position to get the right shot….

As always, any questions, ask!

Orange Engagement Portraits

There’s something about being with two people deeply in love. The energy is just powerful and wonderful and infectious. Then add in a dude with a sense of humor that gives you a laughing ab work out every time you talk to him and a lady who’s beautiful smile never leaves her face and you’ve got a guaranteed good time.

That’s how it is with Laila and AJ. Seriously, every time. Guaranteed good. I asked AJ what one thing he noticed about Laila when they first met and he said without missing a beat, ‘Just look at that smile! It’s always on her. How can you not want to be around someone that happy and beautiful?’ I meannnnn…

For their engagement photos, we started out with a few mules. I mean, there’s no way like getting people relaxed and STOKED on taking fun photos than starting with a mule am I right? But really, that’s not something you have to worry about with these two. They are so in love and so happy and full of joy, it was a walk in the park with their engagement pictures. Literally and figuratively. We walked through the beautiful campus of Chapman University and ended in the Orange Circle and laughed the entire way. It wasn’t just a good time, it was an ab work out awesome infectious energy good time. #ilovemyjob

Laila - Aww you’re so sweet! Thanks for the kind words and we will see you in a couple days!!! =)

I got to meet Finn on his one week birthday for some portraits of the beautiful baby. He was so calm and sweet all throughout his first photo shoot, even while his brothers bounced around him. Is that common of third children? To be the sweetest most mellow wonderful of the bunch? Just kidding Dean and Jude, you are wonderful too. ;P I just adore this family. So happy to get to to document their growth.

Dad reading with the older boys as Mama puts Finn into a food coma…

Los Coyotes Wedding Photos

When I first met Ericka and Bobby, I knew their wedding was going to be an awesome one. The referral came from Bobby’s cousin and good friend Brandon, and really, any friend of that guy is way cool with me.

During their engagement and our consultations throughout their planning process, their laid back demeanor had me more convinced I was going to shoot a super fun event. Because the key here people, is to relaxxxxx. Once you let go of all the stress (in anything, really), you’re able to sit back and enjoy every moment. And I really feel that’s what Ericka and Bobby did last Saturday. They just enjoyed it all. I know I did.

It was a wonderful day all around with a cool breeze, bright sun, a beautiful bride and a charming groom to match. Ericka stepped out in her dress and her eyes sparkled in the afternoon light. Bobby’s smile radiated as she walked down the aisle and they became husband and wife. Their best friends and family surrounded them with love, laughter and lots of celebratory dancing as the sun went down and they celebrated their many years together, and their many more to come.  And everyone delighted in every moment.

Orange Photographer – Portraits in Austin

Last time I was in Austin (TX), I had to get Cara in front of my lens. Just LOOK at that hair. And those eyes?! Stop it.

Cara’s one of those people that your heart instantly warms to. I don’t know if it’s the backyard bonfire in her mane or the benevolent summer breeze in her irides, but there’s something great inside this woman and I wanted to capture it.

Thanks for trusting me with your sweet soul, Cara. 😉
