One goal this year is to develop the boudoir photography portion of my business. I love women, celebrating women, and honoring their beauty. To me, boudoir pictures are not about lingerie or being ‘sexy’ for a camera; they are about being comfortable in your own skin and feeling good about yourself. I don’t even like calling them boudoir photos, really, because the work I do is so much more than that. I’m in the process of developing a better terminology to describe this type of work I do.

Additionally, I’m looking into new avenues to showcase this work. I’m thinking a new business name so as not to confuse other clientele, and a new website. Last year I branched off the commercial and corporate portions of my business so my professional clients had a tailored space to view that work. I’m thinking of shifting gears with this ‘boudoir photo’ portion of my business as well so beautiful women will have an inspiring place to go…

This is all very fresh and undeveloped and in an infant stage at best. I’m not sure if I want to take this elsewhere. I do want you to be awakened and inspired to do more and feel more about yourself. I want you to shine in all the gorgeousness you were meant for. So I’m going to sit and ponder this for awhile. Feedback is warmly welcomed. But positive thoughts and energy sent my way would be best. Because this is all about you and however it happens, I’m going to make my ‘boudoir photography’ the best it can be, just for you.

Carie - i think a separate site for just boudoir is a fab! idea – one i had myself!

i think it would be cool to do a “play” on “lovato” since it sort of has “love” in it – with playing on “love women” – for the name of your boudoir site

    something like that…

I have always wanted a Weimaraner. Their beautiful silvery coats are elegant. Their sleek and muscular bodies are majestic. And their eyes? Dear Lord thank you for such beautiful eyes. So when Cathy called me to photograph her two Weimaraners, I was instantly excited. Then she told me why, and I was instantly compelled to do more.

Their four-year-old Buzz had been diagnosed with lymphoma and wasn’t expected to last long. Two days after her call, I met them at their local dog park to photograph him with his brother Woody. It was so fun to see the dogs run around and play. Buzz was full of energy and enthusiasm; you wouldn’t have been able to tell cancer was attacking his insides.

And attack it did: heir playful and loyal pooch didn’t make it another week. They put him down four days later and I am so happy I was able to document Buzz and his brother with the spirit and spunk that surrounded his healthy life. He can be remembered for the good ole dog he was and for the bravery and love he held onto during his sickness.

This session has inspired me to do more work with family photography and our animals. Because these dogs aren’t just our pets, they’re our family. And because remembering them with fun photos is important, I am going to do more. I know vet bills are expensive and often there isn’t much time so I’m going to offer something to help when nothing else can. Because those silvery coats should be turned into silver linings on those last days. I’m going to help make sure of it.

One of the most amazing weddings I ever shot was inspired by music, styled and themed like a festival. So some amazing artists and I got together to create our own festival inspired wedding design. We started with one of my favorite artists, Dave Matthews Band and their ‘You & Me’ – a romantic song that many couples have been choosing as the first dance at their wedding. Each wedding detail and decor element was carefully selected, drawing from the illustrative design of the album cover. It has a muted and dreamy feel with the energy of mardi gras, music and symbolism that infused the design of the shoot with all the awesomeness a festival full of love has to offer.

This You and Me music festival inspired wedding design is featured on The Knotty Bride. Check it out, then check back here soon to see my favorite images from the shoot!

Daniel was one of the most fun grooms I’ve worked with in awhile. The moment I walked into their room to shoot them getting ready, it was like BAM: awesomeness! He seriously brought the energy higher and higher all day long. Love him.

Then enters Teresa. Tiny and lovely Teresa. From her sweet smiles and downcast eyes during the ceremony, one might think this blushing bride was shy and reserved. But no way, DOUBLE BAM: she’s even more awesome! Teresa and Daniel are a power couple and it comes from the deepest love for life and love for one another within each.

Everyone got ready at the Langham Hotel then onto Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Altadena for the romantic and reverent candlelit ceremony. While we did bridal party portraits in downtown Pasadena, lovely Linsey of LUX Events fine tuned the reception room at Pandora on Green. Just look at those details, people. Every item, from the retro cameras to the antique books to the wall of family photos was unique and sentimental to Teresa and Daniel. And Linsey tied them all together with a sweet and romantic charm.

After some amazing dancing, we went out to the alley to get one more portrait before they danced the night away. A perfect picture of love, this rad couple knocked my socks off and dazzled me with their sparkling hearts. So glad for the opportunity to document their day for *Full Spectrum.

As some of you know, I’m a Jack of many trades. Kinda.

Beyond wedding photography, I also shoot wedding videography sometimes too! I shot this one for Mission Visual last year and was happy to work with the Mendoza family again for Marko and Heather’s big day. Such a great family and a great group of people. It’s always a pleasure working with quality people like the Mendozas and Mission Visual. I just makes work fun! 🙂

Happy Friday, ya’ll!
