“I just want to do this for me,” she gushed with bright eyes as we sat over lattes, planning her edgy boudoir photo shoot. “I’m almost 40, I’ve always wanted to, and…why not?!”

So we met the following week to rock some boudoir photography like neither of us ever had. For her. But also for me. But mostly for her. Because, why not?

Alaina and Joe are in the entertainment industry and so naturally, they value a good party. With a lot of their friends in the entertainment and restaurant business, they opted for a home town Newport Beach wedding on a Thursday, so all the important people were sure to be in attendance.

And what an attendance it was! Alaina and Joe kept it simple with a straightforward ceremony and classic details at the Balboa Pavilion wedding venue, including vintage hints with satin covered buttons that ran from train to top of her gown, ivory white roses, and classic black bridesmaids dresses contrasting with bright red and yellow roses. The ceremony concluded and went straight into the party for an all night celebration.

Although Alaina and Joe were focused on a great party to celebrate their marriage with their friends, they wanted a few moments alone together before the Newport wedding festivities began. After getting ready at the Balboa Inn, they met on the rooftop for their first look and some private time. Alaina brought champagne and the two toasted to one another before heading into their party of a lifetime.

Lauren and Shane are the type of couple that come off as laid back, easy going and mellow. And don’t get me wrong, they totally are. But Shane’s got this charming quirky side that keeps a constant smile on his fiance’s face, then Lauren’s got this amazing spark in her eye that makes me wanna follow her into the night.

We started out with a drink at the Ocean Brewery to get the kinks out, cause hey, a cold beverage is a great way to start any date. I knew this shoot was going to be a good time when Lauren and Shane told me they love going out for dinner dates. My kinda peeps! Next we poked around downtown, because Lauren and Shane love to window shop. More brownies! Then Shane began to model hats for us and the laughter began and never stopped.

These two are just a fun couple, so fun photos were inevitable. They’re just a darn good time. We brought their adorable pooch Zoe out to play when we got to Victoria Beach and I think the images on the sand represent so much of who they are together: playful, free, romantic, bold, tender, and totally full of love.

I’m full from this session: full of happiness, full of good memories, full of conviction and confidence in their successful marriage to come. I have no doubt that Lauren and Shane’s day will be one of the best weddings ever. With a couple this awesome, it’s a guaranteed good time.

In the past few months, that needling nuisance we know as Writer’s Block has been at it again. She’s been pestering me like a little sister, and mom won’t let me leave her at home.

With her constantly by my side, I haven’t been able to write a thing. Not a thing worth reading anyway. So today I take it upon myself to move forward. Today I take it upon myself to progress. I can’t blame her forever.

Today I made a personal commitment to myself to write three pages daily, whether it’s good or not. Most writers write every day and it’s time for me to do the same. Not here, not in such a public space, but in a private little box I can close and open on my own and insert my innermost insights. With no one looking, I will write freely and openly, without fear of judgment or condemnation. Blank pages will intimidate me no longer and within that Block I will find inspiration. I will be made worthy by my own will and Mercy alone.

So instead of biting at my heels, she’ll grab my hands and swing me around. She’ll release the block and I’ll reach beyond. I’ll get rid of a little sister and take on a new friend. I’ll throw back my head and laugh. And together we’ll dance a new dance.
