One Saturday morning a few weekends back, I finally got the text: “It’s a…Boy! Welcome to the world Jude Grayson. Today at 9:50am. 7lbs and 5oz of perfection.”

So I got my shooting fingers stretched out and ready to meet Grace and Donnie’s newest little babe. But first! I had to get through Dean!

Dean just turned two and he was all over the place reading books and playing with his dad, helping his mom with cards and generally just busy being two. It was fantastic! I loved watching him run around and get into this and that. He was nonstop. Then when I turned my focus to little Jude, I was completely smitten. His bright little eyes and long little arms sucked me in and held me tight. I was filled with love photographing this beautiful boy.

I mean seriously how adorable are these boys! Grace and Donnie have their hands full but they’re full of love!

I love art at the Sawdust Festival. I try to go every year, and am always glad when I have. Because most often, there is incredible art that moves me.

There is so much art that doesn’t move me. There is so much art that I walk by and I’m not interested in looking at at all. Then there is other art that pulls me in and makes me stay for awhile. Then there’s the art that with but a simple glance, awakens my soul.

After a solid conversation with a good friend on the same topic, this piece stopped me short. It’s amazing how Things are somehow placed in your path to open your eyes at exactly the right time…

Christy and Billy got married on the perfect May day in beautiful Big Bear. The setting was breathtaking at the Marina Resort, set in the middle of nature for a simple yet elegant rustic and woodsy wedding. It reminded me of endless summer days as a kid during family vacations at the cabin in the woods.

All the details were perfect and matched the comfortable but classy wedding, from the hand carved wood on the DIY center pieces to the romantic lights strung from the ceiling. Christy chose amazing reds and oranges for her florals to pop from the cool blues and greens of Big Bear Lake.

But the best detail of all was one that Billy was sure we wouldn’t miss: the dance party. As he and his new wife opened the floor with their first dance, he jokingly checked his watch as the sun sank behind the horizon. It was time to celebrate!

And a celebration it was! Christy and Billy danced the night away with their friends and family as Jessica and Chad of ISHOT Photography and I took care of the wedding photography images for Valarie Ortiz

Life is so amazing, isn’t it? Birth and growth and rebirth and more growth and death and dealing with death and more life to come, helping one another through it all along the way…it’s just amazing!

I had the opportunity to photograph two little babes recently as well as hang out with some tiny baby puppies and I’m just blown away by this whole birth/baby thing. I mean, everything starts out so small, so vulnerable, so helpless…and it is our job to protect them, nurture them, feed them and help them grow. Then, when they can stand on their own, they still need us. Mothers and fathers obviously have the biggest role, but we as a community must offer support too. We must all help.

Like when a little child tries to steal a toy, we must say ‘We share.’ When a little puppy takes care of business in the grass, we must provide warm praise. When a teenager is bombarded by peer pressure and torn between right and wrong, we must act as positive role models. Or when a young adult needs advice on which direction to go, we must lend an ear and offer sound feedback.

Support. We need it from the very beginning as these little babies who cannot survive alone, then it extends throughout our lives as we grow and progress and give new birth to new aspects of ourselves. Because really, what are we here for, if not to help one another?

For those of you that read the Benefits of Having a Second Shooter post from a few weeks back, you are beginning to understand the importance of having two photographers there to document your wedding day.

I think more than anything (not more important than anything, just more than anything), it’s so great to be able to be two places at once. One photographer can only cover so much ground at your wedding with so many nooks and crannies and so many guests. Having two photographers allows the coverage to be so much more thorough and extensive than if there were just one shooter alone.

Example, in this photo below, I was out shooting the cocktail hour while my fabulous second shooter Robb was stuffed in a closet preparing a rad slide show for Nina and Anthony at their wedding last year. I would not have been able to do that and cover the cocktail hour for Nina and Anthony at the same time. See, two places at once!

Fabulocity.
