Maybe Someday I’ll be a Shaker

Ever since Mrs. Peel’s class in fourth grade, I’ve wanted to be a teacher. She was so encouraging and motivating and earned the attention and respect from every child in that room with such positivity and passion, I knew that someday I wanted to be like that too.

Then I dove into the field of photography and haven’t stopped swimming. Just keep swimming! And it’s been amazing and I have exciting plans for my future here, but I still think about teaching. I still dream about engaging others with inspiring information and being a positive influence on undeveloped minds.

I’ve started guest speaking here and there, and have developed the Camera Basics Class by Lovato Images and am always happy to share with my friends and fellow photogs. But I still have this hankering to do more. I just love when I say something and I can see it click with the other person. Whether it’s posing a client in a portrait session, solving a technical problem for an aspiring photographer, or even answering a child’s ‘why’ question, I get the same feeling. I feel closer to being like Mrs. Peel than I was one moment before. I guess her positivity and passion are still with me today.

Today I am a portrait photographer, a wedding photographer, a business developer. I am a seeker. A mover. And maybe someday I’ll be a shaker. I want to share. I want to encourage others to want to grow. I want to transform. Someday I’ll lift my arms and instead of simply orchestrating a group portrait, I’ll be orchestrating change. Someday I’ll be the teacher I’ve always wanted to be. It might not be in a classroom but I’ll be out there lighting little matches in dark minds, just like Mrs. Peel did for me.
