Slow down, the waves whispered

I remember many years ago, my beautiful mother wrote in my birthday card message with extra underlines: ‘slow down.’ It’s a lesson I’m still mustering up the courage to master.

Life just moves so fast, you know? It’s so easy to get caught up in the race of it all. Especially in Southern California, especially as a business owner, especially as the social young woman I am, especially especially especially…

I spent the Fourth weekend in Laguna with my family at a friend’s house. I parked my car, closed my computer and hardly used my phone. I walked back and forth from the house to the sand, I stood on the balcony and looked out at the Pacific, sat on the edge of our land and listened to the sea. That champagne shore washed over me and with it came a cleansing message…slow down, the waves whispered, look at Me and see. It suddenly became clear that the moments where we are most attentive are the ones that are most important. Those moments where we are focused and engaged, we are fully present and fully alive.

So today I’m going to focus on moving forward with less speed, less intensity. Life is so precious. Each moment glitters with all the wonder that this life has to offer. But if we’re going too fast we’re going to miss it. So here’s to slowing down, engaging in the present and dipping your toes in the waves as much as you possibly can.

Happy Friday, ya’ll.
