Stephanie was one of the most organized brides I’ve worked with, which was awesome! Months before I was even needing information or forms or numbers, she had them waiting in my email inbox. She crossed every T and dotted every I and it was such a gift working with such a purposed and punctual individual!

Finally her wedding day came. And she was a few minutes late. Her dress wasn’t steamed and her mom was running even later. She seemed relaxed enough, but you could see the tension building.

Then came the moment for her first look with her groom, Tom, and the emotions exploded. As tears trickled down her cheeks, Tom smiled huge and laughed and touched and soothed her nerves. Once they were together, all the information and numbers and napkins and details melted away. It was their day. And they were together.

Having first met in college as friends, and building upon that, this is a relationship I admire and am proud to say I believe in. You can just see the strength between these two. So six years later, after a long friendship then courtship then partnership and now life long-ship, Stephanie and Tomas are together forever. And no amount of organization or punctuality can help make this union better. Because it’s strong and perfect just the way it is.

Congratulations, Stephanie and Tom. So happy and honored to have documented your beautiful day at the The Prado.

Sometimes you have to put yourself out there. Sometimes you have to climb out on that limb, scratch up your own limbs in doing so, and teeter out into the balancing act of the dark and dirty unknown.

For me, that can be anything from using a different lens than I’m used to or prefer during a shoot to wearing a new random shade of lipstick. It can mean cold calling that lead I got from that reliable source. It can mean buying that dress that the me I’d like to be would wear. It can be increasing the price on that one proposal because jeez, today I feel like I’m actually worth it. It can be going into a little bit more debt because this will really boost my business…hopefully. In some cases, it can even mean jumping out of an airplane or riding on the back of a Harley going 80 down the 133.

I feel that uncomfortable steps and sometimes scary risks and constantly changing things up is an essential part of growth. As an artist and as a positive promoter and seeker of the Good, I’m constantly yearning for growth and consequently, change. I’ve started The Art of Exceptional Living by Jim Rohn and though I’ve just begun, I’m already excited to pick up new ideas and tactics to change my life again. And again.

Sometimes you have to climb that tree, even if you’ve never climbed one before. Sometimes you have to quit that job and try making it on your own, even if bills are big. And sometimes, you have to roll up your sleeves and get a little dirty. Then hopefully, laugh it off. No one said change was easy. But when you’re committed to it and ready to roll with the punches, it makes balancing the messy stuff a lot more manageable.

John - I get really proud of my cuts and bruises. Reminds me of being a kid again. I also say that the cuts came from a knife fight. Chicks dig that.

Lovato Images most definitely offers albums for any session. Our books are all custom designed and printed on the finest Fuji Crystal Archival paper, guaranteed to look luminous and luxurious for your lifetime and beyond. They are put together with micro-fold binding, not a cut, so the spreads lay flat and showcase the images beautifully and without cutting any bodies (or boobs) in half. They come in a lovely little canvas safety satchel for protection because surely, this is a family heirloom in the making.

There are two exterior situations from which to choose for your amazing Lovato Images story book heirloom masterpiece: leather or linen covers. The leather is 100% full-grain, natural with gorgeous strength and quality. The leather books have a hard substrate between each page, making the pages thicker, more durable and much more resistant to damage (ie, to last you a lifetime!). The linen books are printed on the same beautiful paper, just two pages mounted back to back, making them lighter, skinnier and more flexible (kinda how I’d like to be!). There are also two size options: 12×12 and 10×10.

Lovato Images books are beautiful ways to illustrate your story for generations to come. I’ve worked with this company on album construction for a long time and I truly believe in this product…especially when combined with Lovato Images work and custom design. I felt like I should take a few pictures of these stunning books, in case you were curious what we do over here after a wedding’s wrapped at the Lovato Images Control Center, or in case you weren’t paying attention during our initial consultation so many months ago! 😉

With this little heat wave we’ve been having here in SoCal, I was reminded about a sweaty shoot I did with some of my favorite clients back in July. Though it wasn’t 99 degrees outside, we heated up their living room to just about that trying to keep two-week old Liana Mae as comfortable as could be in her birthday suit.

Brooke and Charlie hit me up weeks into their pregnancy last year for a maternity and newborn shoot. I was thrilled to be of the first thoughts in their planning, and again thrilled to get to shoot the miracle of Brooke’s pregnancy back in May. I really am amazed at the ability of a woman’s body to grow a child. It never ceases to bring chills to my skin and warmth to my heart.

Then I got to meet little Liana Mae. What a doll! A lot of people say ‘aw, how cute,’ to newborns but they’re really fibbing. Cause let’s be honest, not all newborns are cute. Some of them look funky. Weird. Un-humanly even sometimes. Right?

But not Liana. She was perfect from fuzz on head to never-been-clipped toes. Her little face. Her bum. The way she breathed. Her pouty lips while she slept. She is pure perfection and I couldn’t be happier for Charlie and Brooke.

The three of us sweat it up for two hours while we blasted the heater so Liana would stay comfy all nakey. It worked! She was a peaceful little pumpkin pie during our shoot and I’m pleased to (belatedly) present to you Liana Mae, born on June 28, 2011.

Brooke - Love it! You are awesome Jackie!

A friend on Facebook recently posted this image and it made me stop and think. She had seen it hanging in a coffee shop and snapped a shot of it on her phone, and it stopped and made her think too. My hope is that by passing the message along, it might stop and make you think as well.

I have suffered many a relational loss in my life. Friends have come and gone. Lovers have left. Family has fallen away. But the truth remains that the people who cling to you, the people that are here now are here for a reason. They might walk out of your life later, and if they do, no matter what happened before, bid them ado. Because we’ve got to focus on what’s going on in front of us and not harbor regret or ill feelings for the past. The people that matter most, are going to be there. And the ones that walk off, served their purpose. Learn from those relationships and learn to let them go.

And always, keep moving forward along your own path. Keep focus on your own stride. And just keep walking.

Stephanie Erichsen - Great message. I like this perspective, very positive. Even tho it may not be evident at the time it is happening, the people who decide to walk out of our lives, it will take time, maybe months or years to realize that it was for the better.
