Sometimes I wonder what the hell I’m doing. I feel so strongly about this and I understand so much about that and I know for sure on this. But what do I really know? What do I really understand? What the hell do all of these feelings really mean?

I’m just a human, I guess. Trying to do and be the best I can be. Really, I do try, every day, to be productive, to do good work, to encourage and support other people. I do try. Sometimes I fail. But I honestly put forth effort every day to be good and do better.

But  I’m not always good enough. I’m not always right. I try and apologize for things I’ve done and said that aren’t good and right. If I haven’t, let me know. I just want to be Good. I’m just a human.

I do know this damn camera that somehow landed in my lap has become the greatest tool I’ve ever known. I’ve used it to connect, to grow, to uplift, to see better and hopefully to help others see better too. Thanks, Camera. You wonderful little box of a gift. You’re the only thing that ever leaves me wondering and Doing in the most amazing ways.

Nellie and Sameer celebrated their marriage on the most perfect Saturday afternoon that SoCal could offer. The sky was blue, the breeze was soft and the warm sunshine flooded around the couple and their family as they exchanged vows and committed their lives to one another and to the Lord. Their wedding was at the lovely St. Timothy’s in Laguna Niguel and their reception was at the Ritz. Again, the perfect setting! Congrats Nellie and Sameer!

Noah celebrates his bar mitzvah this weekend at Temple Shir Ha-Ma’alot in Irvine. In honor of his year of preparation and upcoming big day, we took some portraits a few weeks ago in Irvine. We had a blast walking around the Spectrum and a nearby soccer park. It wasn’t hard to showcase this fun guy’s personality! He’s great! Check it:

Heather and Michael both grew up near the ocean, met by the ocean and shared their first kiss with their toes touching the salty Pacific, so it was only fitting that they get married on the same sand beside the same sea. Michael started his vows with an endearing admission to his bride: ‘You always hear of grooms getting cold feet before their wedding but I assure you, all the fantasies I’ve had of running away today were with you by my side.’#swoon

Sometimes it’s hard not to get swept away in all the emotion capturing the love of awesome people like this! Sometimes it’s also hard not to get swept away by the waves! I midly battled awesome tears and the awesome ocean that day but dang I love what I do. Working with people like Heather and Michael make that part easy. Congratulations you two!

I spent some time this week focusing on my core values and how that should translate to actions in my personal and professional life. A seemingly daunting task, but I dedicated the time to concentrate on it and give it the thought it deserves and got it done. Airplane rides are good for that. I plan to revisit the exercise in another week, and see how my analysis has expanded, if at all. But after this first round, the first value on my list? Independence.

How perfect for this week, I thought as I soaked in the Goodness my time and energy had revealed. I also value freedom (number 2) and taking care of myself so that I can take care of others. What are we here for, after all, if not to help others?

And I can’t help but appreciate this beautiful country we live in where we have so many options. Sure we’ve got some messed up practices and systems and a whole lot of crap that’s inevitable. But we have choices. We have access. We have the opportunity to be whoever we want to be. And that’s pretty powerful.

So on this Independence Day, as we celebrate the epic freedom our forefathers worked so hard for us to have, I hope you’re able to slow down for just a moment and appreciate the independence we were all born with and the freedom we thrive on. Happy Fourth of July, guys.
