Long Beach Museum of Art Wedding

Heartfelt glances and tearful promises were made as the sun faded behind textured clouds last Sunday evening. Jennifer and Jeffrey vowed to continue on together through thick and thin and let their love shine through even the dark times.

The beautiful couple committed their lives to one another against the perfect backdrop of stunning florals, elegant design and a breathtaking sunset. God gave it to us good that night for sure. His Good Light and the essence of Jenn and Jeff shone through every detail and the strength of their devotion was clear in the eyes of every family member and guest. It was a gorgeous event and fit the couple to a T.

I could go on and on about how amazing Jenn and Jeff are but you’d be here reading all day. Their wedding was pure perfection, just like they are together. So I’ll just let these yummy images do the explaining for now…

Becca’s bat mitzvah last weekend was an awesome event, full of wonderful support from family and friends, lots of fun and laughter and a superb service that was the result of lots of hard work and dedication by Becca herself. I loved seeing how close the Temple Beth Tikvah community is, from the packed pews at the service to the overflowing dance floor at the reception it was easy to see the love and devotion they all have for one another.

Then there was Becca’s family. They are hilarious, caring, generous and all sorts of good times. It was so great to be able to document this milestone in theirs and Becca’s life. Mazel Tov, Becca and family!

Elizabeth and I met over a decade ago (gulp) at college, in Intro to Photo to be exact. We both despised the class for different reasons and had our different struggles, yet so many of the same. As we’ve grown in life, the same has continued. We are so different, yet so much alike. A deep and deserving friendship has resulted from that frustrating little class we were fatefully placed in so long ago.

Now that we’ve left those frustrations behind (and have encountered new ones!), we adore our cameras and our craft. So much that any chance we get, we shoot! We both are fastidious with our development in the photography field and gratefully so, as it’s taken us to many a wonderful experience and place. We went to an Orange party a few weeks back and had to document the attitude of the evening with a few quick portraits. And now that I’m looking through the images, I’m compelled to reflect a little on my dear friend.

Never have I met a woman so delightful and full of Brightness. We obviously all have our dark and dirty moments, and Liz, like any human, has been through hers. But she climbs out, stands up and continues to move forward through life with determination and a little shoulder ditty that gets everyone on the dance floor with her. She is the kind of woman that has learned to roll with the punches and punch back, with pizazz and proper punctuation. She’s an editor, in her profession as well as her life, adapting and revising better as she goes.

And sometimes I just don’t understand how it can get any better with Liz. She is beautiful inside and out, and she radiates a loveliness with every step she takes. And her laugh? Dear God her laugh. THANK YOU GOD for her laugh. And thank You for putting peachy people like Liz on my path. You are so good to me. Liz is proof of that.

Orange Engagement Photos

Sam and Louie are such a beautiful couple, inside and out, I was overjoyed to hear of their engagement (or rather, see it on Instagram, then hear all the juicy detes later of course). Sam and I like to joke that I picked her up at a bar, which I totally did. Her energy was just too bright to pass up on, so I totally asked for her number and friendship history is the rest.

Sam and Louie like to joke that he picked up on his boss at work, which he totally did. Years ago the two worked together and Sam was indeed in charge. Until Louie stole her heart and she realized she had never been more vulnerable and more free in her life. Free to live, free to love and free to be the she and he that they should be. Louie held onto her heart and over the past seven years they have grown into the solid couple they are.

They love to laugh together, cook, go for walks around Back Bay, and love the heck out of each other, their boys and their careers. Because of the beautiful home they’ve found in one another and created within the walls of their apartment, we started there, in everyone’s favorite room: the kitchen. They whipped up a snack then we hit the trails of their backyard, Back Bay.

I love these engagement portraits because they are just like Sam and Louie, comfortable and cozy, fun and full of commitment that only these two hearts can contain. Thanks for sharing some of your greatness with me that night, you two. So glad we all know how to pick up on the Good ones. 😉

Family Portrait Clothing Tips

The fall is upon us! And it’s never too early to start thinking about your family portraits this year…

We’ve put together a few ideas to help you coordinate your clothing before your family gathers for their annual group photo. Whether it’s just the four of you or the entire fam including grandpa and gram, here are a few tips that will help you pull it together.

1. Coordinate colors but do not match. We’ve all done the white shirts on the beach thing (guilty hand raised), so let’s dress like we normally would, uniquely. Look at your home decor for inspiration…are there bright colors? Neutrals? Since you will be hanging these photos in your home, think about balancing your color choices accordingly. Tell the family ‘bold colors,’ or ‘grays, navys, black and tan,’ and let everyone decide for themselves within the color scheme.

2. Include accessories. Accessories like a tie, suspenders, a chunky necklace or high waisted belt not only add to your outfits’ personality, but they can be fun to use in the photos too. We can use a scarf to wrap around two sets of shoulders or a hat to peek eyes out from behind…

3. Limit Patterns. If one guy wants to wear a plaid shirt or one lady wants to wear a floral dress, great. But then balance the pattern with solids or a softer pattern like a thin stripe. If everyone has bold patterns it could distract in the image.

4. Leave out logos or characters. That may be your husband’s favorite Hurley shirt or your child’s favorite movie, but big logos, text and characters will not only off set a photograph, it will date it too.

5. Use Texture. Textures add a lot of interest to an image. So think about including some lace tights or a tweed blazer. It will add variety and dimension.

6. Have fun and express your individuality. Every family member is distinct, so dress accordingly! As long as your color scheme and style levels coordinate, express yo-self!
