Katy and Kris are artists and every ounce of their creativity was poured into their wedding. They both are visionaries who see beyond the present and tangible, and their unique perspective was told in every detail of their day. The theme of their wedding was post-apocalyptic, focusing on the regrowth of nature and new life. The story Katy and Kris want to tell is that their love is not defined or confined by anything man made.

They chose the Oak Canyon Nature Center in Anaheim Hills to exchange their vows and they dressed the rustic landscape with deep purples and bright greens including fresh ferns and succulents. As their guests moved to their reception at the McCoy Equestrian Center, they were encouraged to bring sentimental items to put in a time capsule that Katy and Kris will open on their 10th anniversary. They were provided with ‘survival rations’ or snacks then were seated at tables with centerpieces made by Katy and Kris themselves that were each an organic mix of life and death. Completely DIY, Katy and Kris did an exquisite job of sharing their story and I’m honored to share it here.

Katy’s sister designed and created her wedding dress, including every bead and stitch. #gorgeous

Katy made necklaces for her bridal party and members of her family. They included wire wrapped beads and precious stones…

And of course Katy designed her own bouquets full of her favorite succulents.

Kris and Katy embraced for a beautifully long time when they first saw each other during their private first look.

Tracy Lozano - Thank you thank you thank you! As sister-of-the-bride (one of the many), it is such a joy to revisit that beautiful day. Your photographs perfectly capture the beauty, fun, wit, and romance of Katy and Kris’s wedding day. Excellent job!

Little Teddy got baptized on a warm sunny [winter] day earlier this month at the Serra Chapel in the San Juan Capistrano Mission. I love how the history whispers from the walls in that place; with two hundred years and countless moments sealed in every crack and crevice, the place just speaks to you.

So Teddy’s name got added to the same registrar as the very first baby baptized in the Serra Chapel while his family and godfathers vowed to stand by him in his faith. I love that I was there to capture it for them, and for Teddy, because the little dude slept through most of the service…

Teddy’s big sister was too cool for school and said ‘no more pictures…’ I can’t blame her. It was a big day.

So many things are in store for this year I can barely contain my excitement. Lately I just can’t seem to get thoughts and goals and plans out of my head fast enough; I’m constantly writing and scheming and working towards a ridiculously successful year.

Success to me is doing what you love even after you trip on some failures. Success to me is maintaining happiness throughout the difficult days. Success to me is looking forward and knowing things will be bigger and better, because you will make it so. Success to me is being gracious and grateful, every day. And I know this year, Internet, is going to be a bangin’ success.

More from this intimate shoot to come…stay tuned…for awesome images, stories of success, and all things lovely and Light.

Carie - yup yup! you said it sista! this one hits home for me, big time. ack! i’m excited to see everything the year holds in store for you…..

When someone comes to me and says ‘I want to do some fun photos,’ my heart skips and my mind races free in a warm field below spring mountains and a blue sky. Yes, that really happens. I’m kind of a dork about creative photography like that.

So naturally when Michael said he needed professional headshots, but also wanted to do some fun photos, the above happened in conjunction with an excited squeal. Michael has mad style and is rad to be around because he’s got this energy that unfolds gently but leaves you enlivened in the most effortless way. I knew creative photo awesomeness was about to commence.

We grabbed a few head shots for his job then set off running through a field around his place in Long Beach. Michael’s (amazing) style + (contagious) energy + my instrument usage = Lovatomercial material. And yes, thanks to Michael, that’s absolutely a word.

Dakota and Kristen got ready in their separate suites at The Hills Hotel on a soft day in November that whispered of rain. Who would want to step outside though with such a swanky interior to enjoy?  Though rain’s been said to be good luck on a wedding day, Kristen looked in the mirror one last time before heading to the church and she knew that luck was not needed here. Dakota and Kristen were simply meant to be.

Their rad candlelit ceremony at Mount of Olives Church whisked them into their destiny and the two became husband and wife. It was amazing to witness such love and I couldn’t help but think to myself (yet again), I love my job.

I shot this for Full Spectrum Photography and a full team of awesome wedding professionals. Dakota is a DJ and Kristen a coordinator so obviously the day was stacked with stellar details and artists that created the perfect party for the perfect pair.
