Sometimes in life you find yourself at a crossroads and neither road is wrong nor a bad way to go, but rather both paths are purposeful and push you to progression. But if you choose the righter of the paths, you’ll be propelled forward so hard and so fast that the life you’ve always wanted will wrap itself around you and never let go.

The funny thing is, I have the life I’ve always wanted: I’m happy, I’m healthy, I’m loved and I love, so much I love. I have [a pretty rad] shelter, I have [delicious and nutritious] food, I have shoes to protect the feet that keep me moving.

But for those of you that know me, I always want more. I’m content with where I’m at, but golly gee why not push for more? It is 2014 after all! What better time to reach for those stars up there?!

With that being said, I’m sorry I’ve been away from this blog for so long. December 4th was my last post, really? I’m embarrassed. So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and all that jazzy jazz. I’ve missed you. The workload over the holidays took over and I could barely keep up in this darn office. Forgive me. Love me. And come back to watch me launch from this awesome crossroads. 🙂

So Cheers! To new roads, new beginnings, moving forward and Light, always Light!

Sometimes words don’t do justice to the beauty that can be shown in a single image. So as much as I love to write, and as much as love to tell a story with my words, I’ll let these maternity photos do the telling this time.

Thanks to my fabulous assistant who helped us rock the shoot at Doffo Winery in the gorgeous Temecula Valley. I gotta thank the Big Guy for giving us such great Light that afternoon to shine around little Lucca growing inside that lovely belly. And thanks to Damian and Vanessa, for letting me tell some of the story of the beauty inside of you two.

Enjoy!

I LOVED this one, because it’s the same rock they stood atop on their wedding day…

They wanted to copy that picture* but because there was a huge canopy above, they had to sit. But I think it’s a great do-again. 🙂

I really enjoyed this family photo shoot with David and Christina. Obviously I have fun wherever I go and I love my job, and working with amazing people is always awesome and rewarding. But this session touched a little sentimental bone in my body and I feel it every time I look back at the images.

Observing David and Christina with their kids reminded me of my parents when they were that young, with us kids so young. It was in the way David tickled Leah with Daniel on his shoulders to make them both laugh. It was how Christina held her little girl above her with total adoration and love. It is a bit of the back story I know on David, and his drive, and seeing it play out as the support in his family life. It is the dedication and commitment Christina has to her husband and kids that sustains them.

It’s what good parents are all about. Yeah, you keep on with your careers and you buy a house and you invest not just with your money but with your time and your relationships and you grow and develop as adults. But it’s all for the kids. It’s all for the family. It’s all about that parental love. I heard it once that when you become a parent, you’re no longer the picture but the frame. That’s totally it.

Good stuff, David and Christina. I’m thankful to know you and thankful for reminders like these that keep me counting my blessings. I’m most thankful for my own parents and for the solid frames they’ve been.

Listen, for those of you who are still unsure as to whether or not #ilovemyjob or have fun wherever I go, I put together a little before and after/behind the scenes photo for you. I just want to make it clear: I LOVE MY JOB, and I work to have fun wherever I go. 🙂

Thanks for everything Kathy and Jason, you beautiful duo, you. And thanks to their friend Norma Maciel for letting me steal this shot she stole while we were working Saturday. And to Liz Zuluaga for being all the amazingness she is.

Do ya’ll remember the guest post by the fabulous Robb Davidson Photography we featured a few weeks back? About the REAL competitor in the wedding photography business and how to handle it?

Welp, I sure do. I remember it every wedding I work because I see them everywhere. Now, I’m not the competitive type really, and you’ll never see me elbowing a guest out of the way because I’m feeling threatened, but you WILL see your guests’ heads in our images.

Check out this quick clip I pulled from a wedding I shot a few weeks back at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott. I was shooting video, and with video it can be even tougher because you can’t just move and take a new shot (sometimes you can’t do that with photo either). I was filming the ceremony on a tripod and the whole sequence of thee kiss is ruined because a guest wanted to get a quick picture for herself.

Please take this into consideration when planning your wedding and ask your guests to refrain from taking pictures during the ceremony. The quality of YOUR wedding photos is at stake. Not your guests. Help us help you. We wanna do what you hired us to do.
