I’ve gotten to know this family quite well over the past year and I’ve got to admit: I’m in love.

They’re FUN and they laugh loud and work hard and they lean on one another and dance and droll together and they’re easy going and cucumber cool on top of it all. Seriously, anyone that’s hung out with the Faranos (and Chambers duo!) knows that they’re a fantastic group. I’m so lucky to know them.

Even luckier to have had the opportunity to meet them and spend time with them up in Pismo Beach this summer. Jeffrey and Jessica had gotten their parents a family portrait session for Christmas and we finally scheduled it on this family trip. We cruised around Pismo by foot, smoking cigars, taking pictures and following the lovely light as it saturated the horizon. We took awesome shots at every spot and I understood that a family this fantastic is precisely how ‘family’ gets such a good name. How can you not love that?

Follow up to the Competitor [guest post[ by the amazing Robb Davidson:

…So how the HECK are you going to control this [infiltration of guest-photographers at your wedding]???
At a 100% level: you can’t. We can’t avoid the age we live in with cell phones, iPads, and millions of digital cameras. HOWEVER, you can make them more aware of how that can affect you as a couple.  I would suggest three different things…you can do one, or all three if you wanna go really bonkers.

1. A little note in your invitations.

Just drop a little love note that there will be a professional photographer to capture the memories for you. Leave the camera at home, please.

2. A Cute sign upon entering the Ceremony site

Being creative with decor is soooo in, (‘Choose a seat not a side’ signs, etc) that this would still be a fun stylistic announcement. Same idea: kindly inform the guests “For your viewing pleasure, we have hired a professional photographer to glue a camera to their face so you don’t have to. Be respectful of our memories, and be a part of them.”

3. Announcement by the Officiant

This has also been going on with cellphones and pagers (I leave my pager at home now) being more common accessories already, just include that the cameras should be stored away…Or at the very least to remain in your seat. (oh man, those aisle jumpers are tough to battle sometimes)

Let me extend one final olive branch…

I know this will be tough to do, and we can’t expect this situation to just go away. It’s understandable that people want to apply their own EarlyBird filter to your first dance and hashtag the daylights out of it. That’s oooookkkay.  At least by using these few little tidbits, there is a fighting chance. Cameras won’t jump out in the aisle for the first kiss, all group shots are done so quick without distractions, and moms & pops get to sit back to enjoy the entire night with your guests.

Being a wedding photographer is all about problem solving and using what’s available…even IF it’s the flash of a guests camera!

xo!

Sometimes you get inspired by the sweet sound of a single voice. Sometimes you get lifted by the depth of a few simple words. Sometimes you get motivated to live a richer life, just by witnessing the richness of real love.

With Dawn and Hawkes, it’s all of that and more. Time with these two is a lot like their music: fun, full, honest, effortless and so rich in love, you’re high for days.

I was fortunate to host the pair during their recent soCal tour. We skipped down to Laguna one bright afternoon to soak up some soCal sun and breathe in the salty fresh air. As we were walking out the door, I asked if they were bringing their guitars. Miranda replied with hesitation, saying all their pictures are with their guitars. “I want some of just us,” she said.

Well here you are, Dawn and Hawkes. Eighty-six moments of awesome, no guitars, some fun, lots of love, and just us.

I chased the sun as it slipped further west, staring straight into it’s rust rays as I battled traffic into LA. I raced the clock, knowing that the sooner I arrived, the sooner my heart would be at ease.

You see, no matter how hectic life can get, I always lean back on knowing that I find solace in simple time with good friends. Liz met me downstairs and helped carry my things, my heart, up to her apartment. As the aromas of onions and garlic filled her kitchen, my mouth watered not just for the pasta, but for the chat we were about to have.

Women just need to talk. To connect. To share. And my best friends, my best times are wrapped with that. We eat, we drink, we laugh, we listen, we share and even though sometimes we may not understand, we always connect.

Finishing dinner we curled up on the couch, forgetting completely about the plans we had to go out that evening. We sat and caught up on life, work, love and everything between. After we rearranged a few foreboding feelings, we ended up rearranging some furniture and a few plans for the future. I left late that night with a huge hug and a huge weight off my shoulders. Not that anything was wrong before, it’s just that everything was perfectly peaceful after.
