Ab - You know I’ll help ya any way I can! I just wish I could win a photo shoot lol

I met David four years ago on Mother’s Day. My own mother, being the selfless and devoted life giver that she is, encouraged me to take a gig on her day. “You gotta work when you can work,” I remember her saying as I asked if she would mind me being gone that afternoon.

So I showed up to do family portraits at a big fun family party in Yorba Linda. It made me miss her and regret my decision to work. There were a few people running late so I hung with the family for quite some time before getting down to business. I struck up convo with David, a photography enthusiast, who was interested in starting his own wedding photography business.

Fast forward to current day awesomeness and David and his wife Christina are thriving with Full Spectrum Photography. Their work is fantab and I’m stoked to share that they’ve asked me to contribute to their team. This means that not only will I be second shooting for them from time to time, but also taking over a few of their weddings and events when they’ve got multiple bookings. Awesome by association. On multiple accounts!

I made it to my own mother after that Mother’s Day gig, of course. She was happy for me to be working then, and I know she’s even happier I’m working even more now. If I’m awesome at all, it’s because I get it from her.

Abigail Ann - With this logic then I am awesome by association with YOU!

Last month I shot a group of really awesome teens in their annual NCL fashion show. This one was to benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving and was so titled En Vogue’s MADD About Fashion.

I remember when my friends in high school were in NCL, this very same Yorba Linda chapter, to be exact, and had their own annual fashion show. It was interesting to observe (and document!) it from my perspective now and reminisce on my perspective then. My how things have changed!

This group of young ladies put on a fantastic event. Every detail was attended to and the girls rocked the runway with confidence and style. I was impressed with how fab it all turned out and how many people attended. Great job, girls! I haven’t heard how much they raised yet but I know it’s quite a number. It was for sure, quite the event. Rock on, ladies.

I’ve always loved to watch love, not from the outside, but as an active participant. Photographing couples and families in love, it’s not just easy but inevitable that I immerse myself in their story and not just tell it, but feel it and live it too.

Such was the case with Damian and Vanessa. This beautiful couple and their story is stunning not because of their olive skin or striking features. Vanessa and Damian are stunning because their love is deep and honest and real. And I jumped right in last summer when we shot their epic engagement photos in Temecula.

Damian and Vanessa wanted to throw in a little South American old school country style to their photos. Boy wants girl. Boy takes flowers to win girl. Girl loves flowers. Boy gets girl. We used a vintage motorcycle from Damian’s family collection and we found a groovy property in the Valley to illustrate this sweet view of a young and beautiful love. Maybe I’m a little of a romantic, but how can you not get wrapped up in a story as lovely as this?

    Jackie Lovato - I am!

If you’re wondering how I got that bruise on my knee, no, it’s not because my boyfriend beats me. It is not due to my involvement in a crazy tickle monster wrestle match. And it is definitely not because I was on my knees giving a Brazilian blow out to my dog.

Though these things are likely to happen from time to time (the beating in pizza eating contests only, otherwise I’m a winner), no, that bruise on my knee this week is because I got down and dirty with a fantastic engagement portrait session last week. Jessica and James wanted a portion of their engagement pictures to be rustic and out in the wilderness. And hey, when the wilderness calls, Jackie answers.

Aaaaand Jackie also bruises easily. So sorry Wednesday, didn’t mean to flash you an ugly knee with that skirt I wore. I’ll keep my pants on the rest o the week.
