Find Your Own Way | The Balance Between Work and Where Our Dreams Lie

This is from an instant message conversation I had with a friend a few weeks ago. She’s struggling to find a balance between building her photography career (her dream) and keeping a steady pay check coming in through her non-photo related day job (her work). I think you can substitute ‘photography’ for whatever you might be struggling with and apply this conversation to yourself. A lot of us struggle with our work and what we feel we really should be doing or want to be doing. But it’s all about finding balance…and you gotta find your own…

follow your heart, girl
a lot of people are totally happy working their 9-5’s and doing photography on the side
as a hobby sometimes. sometimes for some extra cash.
sometimes as a whole second full time job.
not everyone’s cut out to run their own photography business.
and there’s nothing wrong w that.
find your own way.

if you wanna quit your job and move in with your parents and try to find out if you’re cut out for full time photography or whatever else you might be cut out for, do it. if you wanna take a job that isn’t photo related but pays well and has benefits and try to figure out the photo thing on the side, do that. no one’s going to judge you either way.
it’s gotta be YOUR way.

and you can make it work.
but you gotta find your own way to make it work.

God certainly knows I’ve had my fair share of struggles. But I’m figuring out my balance, one day at a time. And sometimes that means taking time off to sit down and think. Sometimes that means consulting with friends. Or sometimes that means putting two dudes in a tree and calling it art. And any which way I figure out how to find my own way, I’m totally okay with that…

Laycee Lemons - Amen lady. Well said. “Find your way…, like, starting a photography business while going to school to become a nurse and now working part time at Starbucks!” I’m finding my way lady. And I love it. Thanks for the reminder to rock it.
