Often when brides and grooms are booking their wedding photography, budget constraints come into play. Obviously. This is only the biggest party they’ve ever thrown, so naturally money is an issue.
So often I hear people say, ‘oh we don’t need another photographer,’ or ‘we don’t need more images’ or just straight up ‘we don’t want to pay for another shooter.’ But let me tell you folks, it is worth every extra penny you might have to pinch and here’s why:
1. Having a second photographer on your wedding day provides an additional set of eyes, an additional view and an additional creative contribution to your wedding photography images. When the main photographer is busy with the girls getting ready, the second photographer can be with the guys. While the main shooter is photographing portraits, the second can be focusing on details. While the main looks at the dress one way, the second sees it an entirely different way, and so on and so forth.
2. A second photographer provides extra assurance that your day will get covered without a hitch. I’ve heard of photographers tripping and breaking bones, getting sick from dinner and needing frequent bathroom breaks, falling in the fountain and damaging a camera, etc. These are awful and rare accidents but they can happen. Having a second shooter there covers the main photographer’s butt should something go awry.
3. With the support of a second shooter, the main photographer is allotted more time to think in new and creative ways. As a main shooter myself, I love having a second photographer to chat things over with, to rely on to grab some images over there while I’m over here, and to get another angle of the important moments (like the walking down the aisle and the kiss). It’s a huge help to have an another photographer in many ways.
4. ‘Cause I know what I’m talking about and I say so!!! 🙂
Here’s some second photographer images I shot last year with the super awesome Robb Davidson Photography in Chicago. Robb claims he is rockstar (which, he totally is) and can do it without a second shooter (which, we all can if abso nec), but look at all the good images he would have missed out on from Tara and David’s wedding in Wheaton had I not been there to rock it with him! SO worth it!
