Katelyn and Darius had a friggin fantastic engagement party last weekend. Their families* and closest friends gathered in San Clemente to honor and celebrate the couple’s commitment to one another. “May you two be blessed with the beautiful romance that your mother and I have shared throughout our marriage,” Darius’ dad said while the room raised their glasses for a toast. So sweet. So fab.

So though Kate and Dar didn’t officially hire me to shoot the event, I brought my camera and photographed anyway. This was such a lovely party I wasn’t going to miss out on the photo pop! But it was interesting to be a guest and a shooter as the focus shifts back and forth all night. Example, I was constantly hiding my drink in this corner or that so I could walk around and shoot a few. Then I didn’t shoot as much as I normally do because I was busy chatting, yo! I had fun no doubt, and would do it again for sure. But the fact remains that, I have most fun as the official photographer. I don’t need to be an official guest to officially enjoy a rad party. I enjoy events most fully through my lens. So keep that in mind next time you’re afraid to ask me to shoot something. Okay, Kath? 😉

Cheers to Katelyn and Darius!

*Fun Fact! I had met most of Katelyn’s family before not because I’ve known her for years and have been to family parties and that kinda stuff, but rather because, we are all Fenians fans and I had met most of them at shows over the years. Hah!

Some days I feel like writing. Some days I don’t.

Some days the words can’t stop flowing. Some days they just won’t.

Some days all I wanna do is create. Most days, actually. That’s often mostly what I wanna do.

So today.

Red tree. Blue iris. Black lens.

Small on words. Bound with busy. Big on love of friends.

Thanks Liz for helping with this fab shot today! Loved that tree. Loved our time. Love YOU.

So a lot’s been going on the last few weeks. I hosted 3 house guests. I worked two full weekends with back-to-back-to-back shoots, including two baptisms, an engagement party and a wedding. I painted my fingernails pink. Was energized and poppin’ for a 21 hour day! Hung out with Jean Dujardin backstage at the SAGs. Made three loaves of beer bread. I mean, a lot has been going on!

So holy heck, it’s February! It’s one of my favorite months of the year and I can’t believe it’s already here! January was super awesome but there’s so much I didn’t get done that I wanted to–I’m thinking February’s to-do list is going to be a little larger consequently, and I’m super happy about that. I just love this month! Strawberries, chocolate, love celebrations, ME celebrations, the history of our beautiful dark skinned brothers celebrations…this is just going to be great.

First on the to-do list–why is the background of my blog green? I mean, I love the color (it’s my faaave) but it’s not supposed to be there. We just added the ShareThis plugin as well as the ShootQ Contact Form 7 last week and ever since, my poor blog has been a little green around the gills, even though it says it’s gray! See!

Anyway, if anyone has any advice, that’d be great. Cause as much as I love green, I’m not feelin’ it on my background here. Besides, this fabulous month of Feb should be full of grays! Like gray sweaters mixed with red scarves, silver (gray) platters of truffles and chocolates, a gray background to a fun blog bursting with Feb fabulousness…you know!

Aaaand just because a blog post isn’t quite fabulous without a groovy image, here’s a self portrait I shot in NYC with my Cmeha 35 on on Fuji Super HQ 200 DXF film. January 2, 2012. It doesn’t look as good as it would if the blog background were gray. But there you go.

Lanie and Daniel were married at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church followed by a fabulous reception at the Pasadena Hilton. It was a beautiful service celebrated with beautiful family and friends on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, even though the weather men said it was going to storm and rain all weekend! Boo-ya weathermen. We rocked your “storm” with blue skies and a clean and dry white wedding dress!

I just love it when you meet a couple that you just know is right for one another. I love it when love seems simple. I love it when you know that love is strong. This is the case with Lanie and Daniel. I knew all these things when I first met them last year. They were reserved but laughed easy. Their words were few but they spoke much with their eyes. And at their wedding last weekend, though they weren’t bouncing off the walls with excited energy, you could just feel the vibrancy with them together. This is definitely a union designed especially by the Big Guy upstairs.

Congrats, Lanie and Daniel. So happy Robb and I could take care of you [photo] ninja-style on such an especially fab day. 🙂

PS–why is the background of my blog green? In wordpress it says it’s #424238 which is my ‘grey’ normal bg color but it’s showing up green. Wth?
