Here we are. December 13, right smack dab in the thick of it.

Parties, hot ovens, warm kitchens, sweets, sparkles, dinners, more parties, hugs, cards, shows, shopping and all that the holiday craziness has to offer. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle. It’s easy to get overwhelmed. It’s easy to lose sight of what this Season is really about.

I’ll spare you the religious Reasoning in which I believe. But I want to put a reminder out there that this time of year isn’t a time to get stressed out on shopping and worried about all the calories you ate last night and are going to eat tomorrow. This time of year is about family, friends and the love you share. It’s about the spirit of giving. It’s about the spirit of peace.

For one night, the world falls silent and we get to snuggle in our warm beds with thoughts of sugar plum ferries dancing in our heads. Let the magic and wonder guide you these next 10 days. Take a moment to sit with a cup of something warm and relax. Give. Share Peace. Believe in the Wonder of it all.

And enjoy!

Olivia and Mike got married in a quaint little ceremony in his parents’ backyard. Only their families and closest friends were there. Quiet. Close. Intimate, and super special.

Without the spectacle that many ‘typical’ Southern California weddings hold, grand entrance announcements, flashing dance lights and crescendo mixes, Olivia and Mike’s celebration was stripped down to what matters most: family, tight fellowship, and the vows they committed to one another.

Olivia’s immediate family flew in from Germany for the celebration. Mike’s friend made the food from his family’s cherished New Orleans recipes. The cake was cut, the sweetness was shared and Olivia and Mike move forward together as husband and wife with some awesome support. There were 23 guests present, and there’s no doubt that those 23 will be there for this couple every step of their way. What a way to start off, eh?

I’m so happy for you, Olivia and Mike. It’s so obvious when you’re together that you’re meant for one another. And with the love and support from your family and friends at your wedding, I know your journey together will be a solid one. See you in a few weeks for our portrait session!

A friend sent me this link today and after having a listen, I asked her what her WHY is. Simon Sinek has a great point that, we as entrepreneurs, business owners, workers, people, need to know our WHY in order to be really successful at anything.

So after talking about her WHY for awhile, I said, I know what my WHY is…and then it went something like this…

11:55
i know my why exactly

11:55
and what is it?

11:56
i like to make people feel good. i like people to see the beauty i see. i like to share with people.
i do what i do for those reasons mostly.
one hour
typically
is what i get
and people have FUN w me. people feel awesome when i tell them they look awesome. people get excited when i get excited. and vice versa. people feel beautiful bc of the way i shoot them. and i get to take and give….share both ways…i get some of them, give them some of me.
it’s the best. and all done usually in one hour.

11:57
brilliant!

11:58
and even tho i’m not making millions
i dont really care
id like to
duh

11:59
yeah

11:59
but i get to set my own schedule. i’m able to pay my bills. i can buy food and wine and share it w my friends. i love what i do, for the most part.
i think the money will follow
i mean, i gotta work at it. at that. but it’s not my WHY.
“i like to make people feel good. i like people to see the beauty i see. i like to share with people.”
that’s WHY.

Your Butterfly - One thing is for sure… you are extremely good at accomplishing your WHY! And, it’s a great WHY to have!

I was forwarded this blog today by a good friend, and the post was so profound and pertinent today, I had to share:

“I heard someone suggest that the word lonely is a synonym for the word alone.  While I understand the connection, I have to disagree.  I think there is a world of difference between the meanings.

We all know people who do not know how to be alone…they spend their lives avoiding the state.  To be alone requires (to my mind at least) a level of comfort with oneself and a fair amount of bravery.  Being alone can be tremendously satisfying if one has developed a strong sense of purpose and self.  Being alone can allow the waters to still long enough to see reflections in the pool.  Being alone allows for quiet in a world that has no volume control.

Lonely is another beast altogether.  Lonely separates and divides. Lonely creates envy and ache.  Lonely shortens lives and feeds fear. Lonely can often be temporarily remedied with a kind word and an afternoon of conversation…a long walk and a meal shared.  It is generally something to avoid in large doses.

But alone is a condition that we humans must try embrace somehow along the way.  For as sure as the sun rises, even in the midst of the crowd or family, we will find ourselves alone in this life and we must choose to cultivate and plow or settle in for a bout of lonely.”

Head over to Snakeskin Journey and check out this wonderful woman’s work.

And to illustrate, an image you might have seen before, but it’s so relevant, I have to share again…oh, to be lonely, oh to be alone

For those of you that are familiar with me and my work, you know we’re a bit earthy, personal and full of contrast. To best illustrate this combination of me, my style and my work, I’ve found canvas.

The heavy duty woven fabric painted with the writing of my light, the darks and brights, wrapped around a wooden frame, mounted out towards you to touch…it’s just right. All the elements of me and my work wrap so perfectly with canvas wraps.

So the sales hat is going on in 2012, not because I want to be a salesman. Ew. No, because you need more Lovato Images in your life. And beyond the experience that we share while we shoot together, you need a physical representation of all that those moments hold. You need something you can reach out and touch, so that your memories will be touched regularly, that they will live on with you daily.

Lovato Images Canvas Wraps. Get into it.
