Despite a backed up To-Do list, a sore throat and lost voice, and some seemingly yet unconfirmed better judgment, I went out last night to the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. We Are The Pilots were playing their final residency show and I just had to show up and see these boys again.

And they did not disappoint! The guys played an awesome set with a very special guest appearance by my dear friend, Wizard and phenomenal musician Garrett Sadler on keys and I couldn’t help but shake my tail feather. I couldn’t cheer with the rest of the massive crowd (they had a huge turnout!) so I just pumped my fist a lot. I felt like that was a solid way to show my support. Near the end of their set, the band passed out tons of laser pointers and finger lights and we had a fantastic light dance together while they played their last songs. It was beautiful. A dark, dirty bar was beautiful. Yea, I said it.

As aforementioned, it was very crowded so I walked around with this little napkin note to avoid talking.

It didn’t really work. My voice is still gone. But I’m back at it today, working in the office cave all day, talk-less. But hi! I <3 U.

Jason - Hope you feel better — tea and honey and all that are nice, but I find time and rest are what it really takes. Too bad all I do all day is talk — I get raspy for a week at a time!

Jackie - I completely agree. Thanks, Jason!

Jackie - sure thing! thanks for a great show!

Lauren and Anthony bought a house! After three years of renting, they have a place to call their own. And after three years of marriage, the young family was ready to do a portrait session; their first since their wedding.

So naturally, I thought it was a great idea when Lauren suggested we start our shoot at their new place. I met them after Anthony got off work and we skipped around their ‘hood as the soft fall light covered us with dramatic coat of loveliness.

The cool October air made me feel extra cozy as we wandered around their neighborhood. The fading fall light put a bounce in my step as we worked quickly to beat the arrival of evening. The tiny wagging tail that met me at their door and saw me off before I left offered a sweetness that had me counting all the brownie points my work constantly provides to my life.

Then add in an extra surprise session tagged onto the end of another awesome shoot…and the brownie bowl is overflowing again…

😉

Thanks, Lauren, Anthony and Bubba!!

Michelle - Have you planned another event like this for 2012? Lease LMK if it materializes/ and is profitable for you; I’d be interested. 🙂

Last week I went with a few friends to Scott’s Restaurant and Bar in Costa Mesa for a fashion show. My friend’s hair dude designed all the hair for it…and I think any opportunity to get out and see some art is an opportunity I’d like to take.

So on outings such as these, I typically don’t bring my gear with me. A friend just said to me today, ‘it must be nice to have your work be your hobby too,’ to which I responded ‘unfortunately the work takes a lot of the hobby out of it.’ Sometimes I just want to go have a good time without 25 pounds of gear in my shoulder. You know.

This time though, I did take my new little sidekick, the Canon G10 that I swiped off craigslist a few weeks ago. I’m in love. It’s a brilliant little camera that fits in my purse and is capable of taking some amazing photographs with fabulous quality. Canon has it’s successors, the G11 and G12 out already. But I found a good deal on this used baby and decided to take advantage and use her myself!

So I still have some kinks to work out…mainly…my personal speed at operation. I missed a lot, and wasn’t too thrilled with my settings…but I think maybe the dress I was wearing and perhaps the drink in my hand contributed to the lack of swiftness with this new piece of equipment. So. It is what it is: my first outing with my new G10. Much more to come.

Big ups to Stephen Mendelson at Studio C Salon in Irvine. Your design rocked this show.

i love nights like these.

nights i spend in my office. with a candle lit. with some wine and will. editing. instant innovative conversation. creating. loving lifing.

i wrap myself up in good intention and possibility. and i let the stress of the day go. i leave the emails and the phone calls and i search for connection and conclusion with humans i may hardly know. i read blogs. i instant message. i take these beautiful tools of online media and i use them to grow deeper into an understanding of others and an understanding of self.

i watch.

i listen.

i spill.

i try new things.

i go slow.

i dive into lightroom and photoshop and drag and pull and mold the image of life into how i think it should look.

and my hope is that tomorrow when we arise, others will believe life can look like that too.
