Sometimes you get stuck. Now, I live in [super dry] Southern California, so I’m not talking about in the mud or snow. I’m talking about the stuck we’ve all been in, the stuck that blinds your vision and mutes your voice.

As an artist, this kind of stuck can come often. So what do you do? One of my favorites is to phone a friend to help tow me out.

So last fall I did just that. I felt stuck. And I called on Liz. We sat in her charming office and drank wine, edited images, talked about everything boggling our minds, troubling our hearts, and of course, took photos. Because when you can’t see, shoot. And when you can’t speak, create. Your vision and voice will find their way back.

San Francisco Ferry Building Wedding

Her red lips were set, her dress zipped. His bow tied, shoes shined. Sarah and John were ready.

They met outside the Ferry Building in San Francisco before their wedding that Saturday and smiled and snuggled in the December chill. This was the moment they’d be waiting for since that first rainy night they met a few years ago. Neither knew it at the time, but this was the forever love they’d both been searching for. Fortunately the rain stayed away this day.

They stood surrounded by their dearest as they exchanged vows and committed to a lifetime of partnership, devotion and love. The historic building whispered tales of romance and adventure as the classy affair unfolded and the couple celebrated their new life together. I know Sarah and John are, but the world just might not be ready for all the beauty these two will create. I know I am. And so are their family and friends. Thanks for sharing it with us, Mr. and Mrs. Engers. Cheers to you!

Today I awoke with more love in my heart than I’ve ever known. How did I get so lucky? Why did God choose me to bestow such blessings? What am I to do with all this abundance?

As my cup overfloweth, I crouch to wipe up the spill. I glance at my reflection and give thanks for all the Light I see. You see, it’s His Light, not mine, that shines. And I owe it all to Him.

I look back on 2015 and breathe deeply as the memories swirl around me. I pick them up in my hands and some of them stay awhile, while others blow off gently in the wind. Like snowflakes, each unique and beautiful on its own. But when put together, they create mounds and mountains of memories that blanket my life in beauty.

Thank you, 2015. Thank you, You, dear reader. Thank you Creator. Ya’ll have been way too good to me.

San Juan Capistrano Engagement Photos

Nick and Heather met through a mutual friend one night at a not-so-crowded sports bar downtown. She was wearing long green pants with legs for days and a smile that lit up the dark room. He was relaxed, unassuming, and not on the look out for a new lady. But there was something about that smile, that light in her eye.

I was there. I was focused on the green pants.

Quickly personalities came out and laughs were shared. The group skipped to another spot and the night ended with numbers exchange and mounting hopes that something could become of the sparkling eyed girl and the tall charming guy.

And it did. Once Nick and Heather had some time together, they slipped briskly into a romance in which neither would recover. They tie the knot in June and I couldn’t be more happy about the pair they are and are to become. And the fact that I have a lifetime pass to borrow those green pants.

To me, the holidays are about being together. They are about slowing down and taking time to appreciate all the good things in life.

I haven’t done a ton of that slowing down stuff lately, but have definitely been appreciating all the Goodness. Like all the mega Goodness that spews out of this family I’m blessed to have been able to document along the way
