Dave and Nicole got married in one of the most epic weekend celebrations I’ve ever experienced. One hundred fifty of their family and friends made the trek to Lake Tahoe to celebrate their love and it was a love fest beyond compare.

Dave and Nicole are just the type of people that go above and beyond in all they do for their friends. Their wedding was no exception as they planned every detail perfectly to accommodate everyone to celebrate in the greatest of Lake Tahoe style.

As much as their weekend was about their family and friends, the base of the story line holds true: Nicole and Dave share a love that’s pure, honest and 100% open…open to change, open to progression, open to working hard to make the best of everything they do together. They are a couple I admire because they are down to earth and simple yet outrageous and awesome at the same time. Mostly I admire them because they are more giving than any couple I’ve known…giving to their family and friends but mostly giving to one another. Their story is one I’m so blessed to have taken part.

It’s a story I will love to tell again and again…with their album! Here’s the layout of their custom designed book that tells the beginning of their tale…

So the main reason I’m in Texas this weekend is because my fabulous clients are exhibitors at the Bridal Extravaganza Show in downtown Houston. GMS Dental Centers will be showcasing their ZOOM teeth whitening, made available to brides at this awesome event.

In addition to covering the event for GMS, I also helped out with the design of their marketing material featuring beautiful Nicole from her Tahoe wedding. Grant, the chief behind the GMS team, holds a special place in his heart for this bride, as he was the FOB. So her smiling face will be all over the GMS walls this weekend at the bridal show, reminding us all of what a perfect bride (with a white smile :P) looks like.

So if you’re in Houston this weekend, come on down to the George Brown Convention Center and check out the GMS digs. Get your teeth whitened. Chat it up with me. Check out awesome wedding vendors as far as the eye can see.

I’m off again today. Headed to Houston for a week of HOT shooting. And by hot I mean, temperatures and humidity beyond my little spoiled soCal belief.

I’ll be shooting four days straight and thank the Lord Almighty that it’ll all be indoors. I went to Texas a few months back and booked this business for this hot summer month and all the Texans warned me of the crazy extreme heat. Like, sticky-uncomfortable-sweat-buckets heat. I’m a little scurred honestly.

But I’ll rock it! I got my boots packed up and my gear tied tight, I know I’m going to enjoy this flight! Because to me, travel is vital. Travel is unraveling. Travel is establishing. No matter how small or large of a trip, it’s always a trip. I see more of the world, carry less of those silly stigmas, and stay focused on moments. Because that’s what life really is about: being mindful to stay present and savor each moment. Whether you’re shooting a group portrait of 45 on the 10th floor overlooking downtown Houston, or you’re sitting at a checker clothed table sipping wine outside in Rome, it’s important to be present in each moment. Travel helps me remember that. Even if I have to mind the moment where I drip sweat walking to my car, I’ll take it.

God bless Texas. Glory to God for all my amazing moments!

Sometimes when fellow photogs get too busy or tied up with this or that, we send each other business. It’s great! Such was the case when the lovely Anna Kwan sent me to shoot a quick engagement session for Jessica and Max…

So I met the cute couple at Marina del Rey by their former digs. They spent a lot of time together getting to know one another on those sands and you could tell by the way they walked around and giggled together that it was a space of comfort and free fun. Jessica’s smile was bold and beaming the entire hour we were together while Max just smiled back with a fondness that manifested itself in his small glances and light embraces with his bride-to-be.

They wanted to include their dogs into the session so about halfway through we grabbed the pooches out of the car and let them loose on the beach. The four ran around and pranced together in perfect harmony as the sun began to sink below our beautiful soCal horizon. Great way to end a day.

Last year I added an important element into my portrait work: the viewing session.

The viewing session is a meeting that takes place a week or two after the portrait session where we go over the images together. It can be difficult narrowing so many (fabulous) photos down on your own for many reasons: too many (awesome) shots to choose from, lack of ideas on what to do with your favorites, lack of understanding on the options and mostly just taking the time to take care of it all. Life is so crammed with this and that and then more of it piled on top; the viewing session is time set aside to help me help you take care of one of your to-do’s.

The viewing session also helps us relive the portrait session and your story that it tells, then we collaborate on the best way to relive it again and again. Sometimes it’s just a few 5×7’s for a few frames or a couple 8×10’s for the wall, sometimes it’s a beautiful canvas to hang in the family room and other times it’s a book for the coffee table. You can select a few prints to blend in with what you’ve already got goin’ on or select one to stand on its own. Whatever your story holds, this viewing session helps us figure out the best way to tell it with your images and to get it done before the years fly by.

Here’s two of my fave portrait sesh subjects’ walls adorned with Lovato Images. Viewing session print picking productivity in action.
